Track of the Wolf barrels? Or other currently available barrels?

Im looking to build my first flintlock. Id like to get a .50 cal, 7/8", straight octagon barrel(I plan to cut it to 25" or 26") that can shoot PRB and PA conicals. Money is a consideration.

But theres a lack of available barrels. I initially wanted to get a Green Mountain or Colerain barrel, they seem to be universally well regarded, and are relatively affordable. But most of their barrels are unavailable currently, whether direct or from the common suppliers.

Track of the Wolf offers an unbranded line of barrels that are made in the US. Does anyone have experience with these barrels?

What are some other options to consider? Thanks.

First i heard of the unbranded barrels. Pretty hard to know what you are getting without more information. Might be something to call them about.

Find a well used Traditions or CVA rifle in .50 cal. Older Spanish barrels generally shoot very well. These will be 1:66 or 1:48 for the most the part.

Strip off everything that doesn't look like a barrel. Use the barrel to build your build. Probably cheaper than buying just a barrel made from unobtainium. Then sell the left over parts to recoup some of your build fees.

Have you searched Gunbroker for used barrels?

Part of the deal carrying those barrels is they won't tell you who makes them. I got one, a 54 a couple years ago for a SMR build. Turned out to be my best shooter. Go figure. I'd buy another in a heartbeat.

Your Colorain and Rice barrels will be 12L14 and the GM will be 1137 barrel quality steel. I'd try for a GM new or used if it were me.
