Jim - If you are set on rawhide and based on your price point, I suggest shopping your local antique malls. However, I suspect anything you find will not be in very good condition.

Once upon a time, I tried hunting rabbits using a pair of so called "Bear Paw" shoes. I spent more time picking myself up from tripping ( due to the toes digging in) than killing rabbits. I then obtained and finished a pair of Ojibways from these kits and have been delighted ever since. The pointed toes slide through brush and never dig in. Last year I cut a large ash and split out some staves with intentions of making Ojibway shoes for my wife and son. Now they are still waiting for me to fabricate a steamer....

Thank you! Found a nice pair of LL Bean bear paws with bindings the original owner wanted to be rid of. The front of these snow shoes "curl" up, so I'm hoping to spend more time walking than tripping. I suppose I'll find out if it snows

If you’re doing one of the primitive biathlon’s you’ll be just fine. The ones that I’ve attended were on groomed trails and you couldn’t bury the tip without a shovel.

Got a pair of Lund 13”x48” that I used quite a bit where I grew up in Western New York. ‘Great’ exercise for quads, hamstrings and groin. Have a nephew with an eye on the pair I have. See them for sale online for $50-$125.

The snowshoes worked fine for the primitive biathlon. The trails were indeed well groomed, and it was great exercise. Itw as only 6 degrees on the starting line, but over 100 degrees at the finish. Don't know why I wore such heavy clothing.
