traditions bbl compatibility?

Anyone know if a crocket and a st louis hawken bbl will interchange (for Traditions)?

I'm kinda doubting it, but curious.

No, they they are different sizes and the St Louis hawken has a hooked breech. The Crockett advertizes that it does, but it isn't. You have to take the tang bolt out to remove the barrel and the tang comes off with it. There are other differences too.

I have a hawken kit that I have totally wrecked the stock (first time builder).

Trying to figure out what I'm gonna do with this unfired kit bbl...

Greetings Nate. Might I suggest you post on the the builders thread with the problem you've had with your stock. You might get some suggestions from the many talented folks here on how it might be salvaged or an alternative. Ideally if you can post photos of the problem it would be most helpful.

You could ask Traditions what stock(s) may be interchangable with your barrel. Also, they may have extra St. Louis stocks or other discontinued stocks that may fit. (I've talked to Jason at Traditions who is knowledgable.)
Also, there is a fellow on the gun auction site[url] auctionarms.com[/url] who is currently selling a Traditions Springfield Hawkens barrel that has been mated to a discontinued Traditions Pioneer stock. It's auction # 7429823 and it ends on 5/25 at 08:12 Pacific time. If unaltered, that may be an example of stock/barrel interchangability right there if that Hawkens barrel and your St. Louis Hawken barrel are the same.
No matter what information you may receive about stocks on line, you should try to verify it with the company if possible to avoid errors.
eBay also is a source of used stocks once you obtain more compatibility information.

I have a call into Traditions yesterday, haven't heard back but expect to soon.

Also keeping an eye out on auctions / other sales.

Right now I'm thinking I might end up with dual bbls in 50 and 54.

My Traditions Deer Hunter fits my CVA. I don't know exactly which CVA it is but it does not have a patch box and it only has one barrel lug. Maybe you could pick up a cheap CVA stock on eBay.

what a coincidence - I bought a ccomplete cva hawken sight unseen for $70 this morning.

I was looking at the DGW catalog and some of their parts (locks, triggers) say 'cva or traditions' so I think they are fairly similiar.

If the traditions bbl fits, then I'll end up with 2 .50 cal bbls - I'll just shoot them both and keep whichever one works better, then figure out what to do with the spare.

I have until Oct 7th to get my act together...

So just how bad off is the stock?

You may find out that even if the barrel fits from the cva in the tradtions that the wedge slot may not line up.If it dont you can cut a new dove tail for it.

Re how bad the stock: I removed too much material underneath the trigger assembly, trying to get it to line up with the lock. If I cock the hammer, and sit the trigger assy into the recess the hammer will fall without me actually touching the trigger.

Also there is a fracture starting at the nose and running about 3" down the length of the forearm. I'm not sure when/how this happened, but I noticed it just after my issues with the trigger.

I know that some of these kits are 'plug and play', but this one has given me a fair amount of headaches. I am no carpenter, but I have built a few wooden boats and decks. This one has been more frustrating than anything I've done so far.

Re the bbl swaps. If the trad 50 bbl fits in the cva, great. If it doesn't then I'll sell it to someone else who is building and may want a spare/unfired bbl.
