Just received a Traditions Buckskinner 50 cal BP pistol for my birthday. It's in the white with black plastic instead of wood. It has a 1 in 20 twist, Clean inside the barrel and doesn't appear to have been fired hardly at all.

I have 490 RBs with ballistol dry lubed 18 mm patches and 370 grain Maxi-Balls. I use 3F Goex BP in all my BP rifles. Also have Pyrodex P and RS plus triple 7, but use real Black.

So my question is what load should I start with and what accuracy should I expect and at what range. As you can see I'm not familiar with shooting BP pistols. I now have 4 BP pistols and have only fired the ROA and that was 30 years ago. I want to go try this pistol. It intrigues me.

Thanks for the help. See you all at the range.

I would start off with the round balls with a .010 to .015 thickness lubed patch on top of 30 grains of 2f BP or RS. Work up or down on the charge until performance is to your liking. I love my single shot ML pistols, they are fun, accurate, effective and best of all easy to clean.

Yep, what Don said. As far as accuracy goes, they will shoot better than most can hold. How about 3 shot group, 25 yds, standing unsupported, .466" center to center. BTW the sights have since been regulated. Gotta love them one shooters.
