I just bought a traditions crockett rifle used and dont know what thread the ramrod is. Could someone help me out so I can buy a jag for it? Looks like it has a wooden ramrod.

I was just informed that the wood ramrod is not drilled to take a jag. So I will need a new ramrod. Any suggestions on one that wont break?

I got a 5/16" 10-32 tip from Track and fitted that to a hickory rod. Easy job and a fine replacement for the original aluminum.

Thanks for all the tips! I ended up buying a synthetic rod for hunting. It is 48" long I will but it and make a ramrod and a ball starter.

When you get your ramrod, check to make sure the maker pinned the metal end in place.

Actually, all of you folks who have never checked to see if your ramrods are pinned should do so.

Virtually none of the big companies that make muzzleloading guns pin their ramrod tips in place.

I've even seen a few "custom made" rifles that don't have pinned ramrod tips although most makers know this is needed.

To head off a question before it gets asked, No.
Glue and epoxy are not strong enough to hole a metal tip in place if it is going to be used to hold a cleaning jag or a screw for removing a stuck ball from the barrel.

My Crockett which I owned, hunted with and shot for many years, had a wood rod. In the woods I always used the rod but was very careful in it's use. At the range I used either a fiberglass or ss rod.
