I have a friend who is looking for a small game rifle which would also be used by his very petite girlfriend. He's thinking of the Traditions Crockett .32 percussion. He and I are both concerned about the size of the chamber in the patten breech. If the chamber is too big it may require more powder than he may like and if too small would be a bitch to keep clean and clear. I prefer a flat face plug with drum and nipple myself, but I think Traditions all have patten breech. Does anyone know about the Crockett? :hmm:

COYOTEJOE-I have one the Crockett rifles in 32cal, and REALLY like it. I shoot 15 to 20 grns of 3fg Goex all day long, never had a problem. I have never had a problem cleaning or shooting. I have shot as low as 12grns of 3fg, groups are tighter(in mine) with 15 to 20 3fg. The caps cost more than the patches, balls, or powder(cast my own balls, cut my own patches) I hope this helps...Respectfully Montanadan ( I can not honestly comment on the Breech) never looked.

Thanks Montanadan! What kind of accuracy are you getting? I still hope to hear from someone who can comment on the breech arangement

Mine cleans easily and shoot VERY well, better than I can.
25gr fffg is stouter than I ever imagined it would be.

COYOTEJOE-We put up 2inch by 2inch diamonds at 25yds, it is not hard to shoot the centers out of them. These Crockett rifles kind of like shooting a 22LR that smokes a little. Cockett rifles are not drum and nipple, not hooked breech either. The area the nipple screws into is actually part of the barrel, and I AM NOT taking the barrel apart to find out about the breech. About five guys in our club have these rifles I have never heard anyone complain about them othe than the fact they always have to clean them, because the wife and kids are always shooting them.(along everyone else). When I first got mine I shot it after our monthly shoot(had 120rb) came home with 10, everyone wanted to shoot it.These rifles are not expensive and provide good value for the money(to me anyway) Hope this helps...Respectfully Montanadan

Same here. My Crockett will shoot dime sized groups at 30 yds with 20 grn Swiss Fffg, a .311 ball and ticking patch lubed with moose milk. I've never had a misfire problem with it. It's a fine little rifle for the money.

Have any of you all found a flash cup that will fit the Crockett? Thanks, ET :redthumb:

No I haven't and it doesn't look like one will fit. The clearance between the nipple and the bolster is just to tight.

Hey, Thanks to all of you guys, sounds like a general feeling of satisfaction and enjoyment with this little rifle. ::
