Hello does anyone know where I can get per-cut gun flints for a Traditions deerhunter? I have some I've made but the lock on the rifle is smaller then most, so it's a little hard for me to make them.

Thanks

Mike

Go to Track of the Wolf online and look at their 5/8 inch English Flints. I think that is what Traditions guns use. At least, that is what mine used.

I have a Traditions Pennsylvania long rifle that basically sits in my closet now days. It has the same lock and uses the 5/8" width. I got my flints from Track of the Wolf and they offered it both in both 5/8" square and 5/8" wide by 3/4" long version. If I recall correctly, the longer version was a better fit for that lock, so that's what I used. Been too long since I used that rifle...

hi twisted,
Im just lookin for some info. I have a trad.Pa. ,50 on the way. Did I make a good choice?
Just wondering because you said you dont use yours anymore. Did you have issues with it?
The one Im getting is new from a local dealer.
I know they are made in Spain and I have 5 piattis, how does traditions stack up against them? thanks Fox.45.

Fox.45, I have 2 Traditions Pas flint and cap and a shenandoah in flint. I have had no problems that I did not cause with any of the three. Tbone

Thanks for the reply Tbone,. I like the looks of the rifle and im from Pa. so I think I will be ok.Its just that im used to my TC hawkin in the rifle line..

There is an old saying down here. "Dance with the one what brought you." There may be prettier girls but remember your choice and be happy with what you have.

My real world experiance is this, out of three flinlocks, one a semi custom with a Siler, the other a blank build with a Chambers lock and Rice bbl and lastly a lowly Bass Pro Traditions Springfield Hawken. The Springfield was my first FL.

Out of the 3 the Traditions performed the best out of the box Period.

Note I said out of the box. It took more work and trail and error for the other more "expensive" guns but now they are very reliable and are better performers than the Traditions.

To give credit where credit is due the Traditions rifle I owned was always reliable and never let me down. I cut that rifle down and my son was trained on it. It was good enough to be his first.
Now since he has out grown it I'm installing that lock on another rifle.
The stock shape on that PA is a little odd so you may have to play around with your hold to keep it from slapping you. The rear sight is adjustable but you may want to consider a primitve sight. All in all I find it an attractive modern made rifle. I hope you enjoy it and hope she serves you well.

I'm using flints that I had gotten from Rich Pierce quite a while back for the Deerhunter and the Shenandoah. Need to make time to get to knap-ins and learn it right.

 I emailed Rich about 3 days ago, asking him what flints I should use and his price and method of payment ,ahd havent heard anything yet. Is he still around??
From all I hear and read here, his flints seem like the way to go.Anyone know anything?

I used a Traditions deerhunter for a couple of years, and bought one for my son. All were reliable and performed well. A 5/8" flint works well with it, but you can use a flint that's slightly too wide for the frizzen if you remember to position it with the excess on the outside of the lock where it won't strike the barrel. My gun still carries the mark from the first time I put a too-wide flint in it without taking that into account.
