I picked up a Traditions Hawken .50 today at a local show for $100 and I have a few questions..
How do I find out if this was a kit or not?
I tried to figure out when the brl was made but the markings didn't match anything on the chart provided here for reference..Does anyone here know how to read the markings?
I also need to replace the 4 screws on the top of the brl with some that fit flush since this rifle had a scope on it and I quickly removed it as soon as I got home and now I need the original type screws for it..I did a search and found nothing so far..
Thanks in advance :)

you need some plug screws , and I think the last two numbers of the serial numbers is the date , just call traditions or look them up on the web , dont know if theres markings telling it was a kit or not , hope diss helps some

That rifle did not come with a scope,it would be an aftermarket addition so you will just need to measure what is in there and then follow the advice about plugs. Traditions has pretty good customer service and turn around on most parts but you have to contact them by phone if you want service.Email contact has never seemed to work real well with them.

I called them and they didn't have a clue when my hawken was made or if it left as a kit or a finished rifle.. :shake:
They do have the plug screws I need but the shipping was twice the price of the 4 little plug screws so I didn't order them yet..Thanks guys

I hate when people put scopes on traditionals. I saw a list of guns at an auction once and saw the t/c .54 hawken and got excited then saw the picture with the scope and suddenly my excitement died.

I know what ya mean,I walked past it a few times and never stopped to look at it because it had a scope on it..I finally stopped and gave it a look since it was the only traditional style ML in the place..I had been looking for a hawken style rifle so I bought it for $100..My buddy wants the scope for a shotgun he wants to deer hunt with so I will only have $75 in it so that's not so bad..I don't like the way it shoots (can't get it to group)so I just bought a TC Hawken off gunbroker and I will probably like it better than the traditions I imagine..
I guess I have the bug worse than I thought :youcrazy:

Just for reference, I have a Traditions Hawken and shoot 70 grains ffg with a .490ball and pillowtick patch. Benched 1"groups at 25yards,1 1/2" at 50 and 3-4" at 100. With practice it has shot as good as any other 28" barrel I've encountered.

I'll try that load..I haven't given up on her yet and I am going try grouping it again when I get back home thursday and see what I can do..Thanks
