Traditions kentucky rifle build

Im building my first muzzleloader which is the traditions kentucky rifle. I have a large 1/8th inch gap up at the muzzle that im trying to figure out how to fill. I was thinking about glueing in a piece of wood and carving it to match but was wondering of other opinions

Have you put the spacer between the two stock pieces?

My first thought was you left the spacer out between the two pieces of the stock.

Bummer, but if you haven’t glued or joined the two halves together in any fashion, you could make up the space at that juncture with a wooden spacer. I omitted the brass piece entirely and used a wooden spacer in its place. I also bored out the ramrod tube between the two halves and inserted an aluminum tube to make the whole area a little more solid.

It’s a kit, so maybe step out of the box. Ditch the screws holding the nose piece to the barrel and attach the nose piece to the stock. It will then be part of the stock.

So the nose cap is 'stuck' too far forward? If that is the case, I think I would be shaving/cutting off the extra wood and slipping the cap into place. I realize that gives you another 1/8" exposed barrel up front, but that seems easier and likely more finely finished than adding filler, especially if you ever wanted to remove the barrel in the future, you would likely break the filler.

You might select another piece of wood and make a part that actually fits. Some hobby stores have small pieces of wood to select from that might give you a good color match.

what i did was soft soldered a piece of brass to fill the gap this allows the screw holes to still line up to clamp the forend to the barrel added about a hour to the build

That seems like the simplest solution. Should look just fine.

I would throw that massive nose cap in the scrap box. Cut the barrel off, cut a new front sight dovetail and go with no nose cap.
