-----I never used 777 but have used pyrodex and it was not easier to clean than black powder, it was harder to clean and more corrosive-----

Ok..I'll admit I lumped them all together.
777 IS easy to clean. Run warm water through the barrel and it disappears. I have had ZERO corrosion from 777 as well. 777 is what I referred to. The only pitting I have is from the Goex in the pan. 777 has not made a mark...period.
777 loose packs a punch also. You use less compared to other powders.

I have no pitting anywhere on any of my guns, some of which are forty years old. And they've always been fed real blackpowder--no fake stuff. Like many other shooters, I have found that proper and timely cleaning prevents pitting.

I have a nickel clad barrel. I'm not sure if it is pitting or actual burns in the side of the barrel from the flash pan. The pits don't bleed rust so I question that part myself.

When I used some 777, I found that it cleaned very easily. I used Pyrodex for years in a cap and ball Kentucky pistol and despite it's claims that it doesn't foul as much and is easier to clean than real BP, I found it to be exactly the opposite. The real black powder didn't foul nearly as much and was much easier to clean. After about two years of using Pyrodex I went back to the real thing.

I actually got 777 to go off in my flintlock rifle, but it wasn't reliable. Never got the Pyrodex to work. If you're going to have to prime the pan with blackpowder, and put a thin layer of BP down the barrel to get the pellets to work, why hassle with pellets and subs? If you have to get real black powder to prime the pan, may as well use it for the load too. By the way, don't ever use 4f for the main load. My 50 cal works great with 3f as both the prime and the load.

I managed to get 3 lbs of GOEX 3F via a friend who was going to Tillsonburg (Gobles) for Christmas. Also heard the Stittsville range (near Ottawa) has real BP.
