Shot the trapper pistol today and was very happy with my groups at 20 yards. I shot a 4 shot group with it bench rested and the first 2 shots were touching each other. I then shot off hand 7 times with an acceptable grouping. I was using small 6 inch paper plates as targets. 25 grains of Swiss 3F and 0.15 ticking patches. I'm wondering if this firearm is up to the task of taking a deer within an appropriate distance.

Yes, If you are shooting that well it will serve you. It obviously will not have the power of a rifle but will kill as well as any non magnum modern pistol. Those soft lead projectiles kill very well.

I think mine is the most accurate pistol I have ever owned. One thing I would highly recomend is that once you get your set trigger adjusted properly that you super glue both set screws. I had a Nasty AD after about 500 rounds where the hammer dropped from half cock when I pulled the set trigger.
