Normally, when I got out shooting, I typically wrap my flint rifle with a wool blanket and toss it in the back of the truck. But now I am posted as far east as one can go in North America. Big move half way across the country. wool blanket won't cut it so I built this. i went a little farther than I planned. The case itself is repurposed pine, and all other materials other than spray foam i had already, so it cost me $8.00 CDN.

Thanks. I`ve got the pieces of the green upholstery cut to make a rifle shaped pad to cover the rifle itself. its the only thing in the case that sits low enough to allow the extra thickness of a pad.
the lock itself is only about 1/8 inch or so below the lid when closed. my only decision to make there is do i keep the pad removable or fasten it to the underside of the lid? i also have to install some welting or something around the rabbet on the lid to keep dust out, add some latches, and perhaps a lock.

Great looking case! Have you thought about routing out about a quarter of an inch into the bottom side of the lid? Then you could attach a foam or cloth pad into the recess, and not lose any room in the case. :hmm:

DD- Thank you and that is a great idea! The lid is 1 inch thick. was part of an entertainment unit in a former life. i keep forgeting i have a router.

COE- thank you. no its not cedar. it is a strip of what a hardwood specialist called ringas wood. i found a pallet about 25 years ago made of it. i`ve used most of it at one point or another, just for trim and small projects. i`m not sure if it is ringas wood but it is nice.

Mick C- thank you but i need more practice. i built that without a plan, just a thought in my head, and built it around the gun. i did learn different ways i could have done a few things, just like anything you build from an idea.
