Looking for a little advice on the two listed nipples. It looks like I’ll get about 50 shots from the ampco nipple before it wears out. At $5.00 per nipple that equates to 12 nipples compared to 1 platinum lined nipple at $60.00. 50 shots per x 12 is 600 shots. How many shots are people realistically getting from the platinum lined nipple? Any downside to platinum lined nipple? I’m shooting 525gr paper patched bullets with 70-80 gr blackpowder.

I have no background to speak on using the platinum lined nipple with paper patched bullets, but I have heard from those that do and they all use the platinum lined. Most of the top round ball shooters I know also use them in competition. I use them and have not worn one out yet. A friend of mine uses them as says he has thousands on shots on each nipple with no visible or measured signs of wear. Some of mine needed the nipple threads recut in a die to make them easier to screw in.

I have used both. The Treso ampcos last about 50-60 shots before they begin to burn out. I’m shooting 90 grains under a 560grain pill. The platinum lined nipple so far has lasted maybe 300 shots with no apreciable wear. However I get a lot of misfires from clogged nippples with the platinum but the Treso almost never clogs. The flash hole on the platinum is tiny

Dave owner of BACO says in competition his platinum has lasted for thousands of trigger pulls and he said no wear in sight /nuff said Ed

I often shoot a very similar load and at times up to 90 grains 1.5f under the 520 grain bullet. Ampco last 70-80 shots before they exceed .029”. and the platinum lined BACO just doesn’t show any signs of wear. Other than the initial cost there’s no downside to the BACO nipple but I do have quite a few Ampco and TC stainless nipples so I use them as well. (10 shots of .40 caliber 400 grain bullets over 70 grains of 3f and the TC is done.)

Lord have mercy. I’ve shot cheap steel nipples for 40 years and I don’t think I’ve ever worn one out. I’ve beat them to death with hammer strikes way before the hole eroded.

I’m shooting a 1:17 twist 45 cal rice barrel on a renegade stock. Shooting homemade and schuetzen black powder. I can see the nipple hole eroding and getting bigger after every range session with the ampco. It wore a stainless nipple out with the quickness to the point where the hammer was blown to half cock after each shot. Looks like the platinum lined nipple is the way to go for longevity. I’ll give it a shot and see what happens.
