Is there a simple way to lighten the trigger pull on a Great Plains pistol? Also, would it make it easier to sight if I would make the front sight thinner? Thanks...

It sounds like you want to do some target shooting so I'll go from there, I am not familiar with the GP Pistol so what follows is generic: a lot of locks have a set screw in the tumbler's notch where the sear nose engages. This takes up creep and to a great extent makes the sensation of a lighter trigger pull. You may also want to consider buying an after market-replacement trigger. There are certain "drop in" models in either double or single set and they sell for around $40.00. Most require the tumbler has a fly, ask the merchant a lot of questions.
On the thinner front sight, you would have to narrow the notch of the rear sight, othewrwise there will be a lot of light on either side of the front sight and you may have more trouble holding a good sight picture. Everyone is different on this subject. Some like a big flat front sight about 1/8" and do good shooting, others like very fine front and back sights. On the rear sight some like a V, others a U and still others a square cut shape.

You solder a small piece of steel just behind the tumbler notch and file it down to the desired safe sear engagement. Use STAYBRIGHT solder, flows at 430, and apply the heat well back from the notch. If done with care, this will not affect the temper of the notch. If you don't want to solder, you can use J&B WELD to accomplish the same result. This process does the same as the screw that Crocket mentioned, but if you cut too far, you have to build it up again and start over. Also lighten the sear spring by carefully grinding the width of it down some. All production sear springs are way over powered. this alone, can lighten your pull.
