I am currently compiling the parts for my "Transitional longrifle" and want to go with the open bow triggerguard.
TOTW has a decent selection of guards, but is there a source that I lack?
And finally, how does a blackened steel triggerguard fare with a brass buttplate and thimbles? Legit?
I only have one color photo!

I am building two trans pieces now. What I did was found the trigger gaurd that was close to what I was building and removed peice to make them open bow triggergaurds.

Thanks, Johnny and Roy-

Hey, that is what I was planning too! That triggerguard from Track, but with the inner curl "sliced and diced".
I can see now that the shape is very easy on the eyes.
But now I have a bigger problem...I gots to be different!
I will check out MLBS, and scope their wares for some more options.
I am using the Davis Jeager trigger assembly also, but I am going to have a sliding wooden patchbox and a different buttplate.

Roy, how does that triggerguard feel? is your hand really stretched out on the fingers, or can you get a real secure hold?

I see one in TOTW that is pretty far away, but I was thinking about "faking the funk" and shooting it with my fingers inside the bow. I have a picture of a Bavarian Jeager that the bow is at least an inch and a quarter away from the wrist (at the closest part). :hmm:

I like the way this gun feels trigger gaurd and all. I'll have to take a new pic of it that is an older one that I already had on photobucket.

What about a mix?
I was thinking rust-blued guard and triggers, lock in the white, barrel rust-blued too, but with brass sideplate, buttplate and thimbles......

Ever seen this? In my minds eye, it checks out, but I would like to see this color scheme for real. :hmm:

I have never seen it on an early gun, What I have done on a brass barreled pistol is heat blue the trigger, lock and screws.
BTW just because I have'nt seen it doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Well, I have been looking around, and that triggerguard is hard to beat for looks and size.
I love the "feel of steel", but will probably go with the brass to match everything else.
I will make my own sights and thimbles as usual, so I have enough thinking to do as it is.
The triggerguard from TOTW labeled T-Jeager-2 is very sweet, but might be too straight up German vs. an American transitional style.
Another sleepless night ahead. :shake:

After tossing and turning all night.....

I might have to make my own triggerguard.
The thimbles will be little baby swamped octagons with rings at the ends and middle, so the finials on the guard will be elongated swamped octagons also?

If someone were to "double dog" dare me to, I just might have to do it........... :hmm:
