If triple seven is a dirty word please stop reading here.

My rifle is a Traditions 50 cal sidelock, .495 round ball, .018 lubed pillow tick patches, Rem #10 caps.

Triple seven has been less accurate for me with groups at 50 yds opening up from 1-2 inches to 2-3 inches.

I fired 20 rounds without cleaning the bore, without firing a cap to clean the pathways. I just fired, loaded and fired over and over again (loading did not get any harder) and groups still stayed at 2" to 3" at 50 yds. For me that was much more fun. Of course 777 may not work like this in your rifle but you just might want to give it a try.

Were you using ffg or fffg?

I am not apposed to using anything in my rifle....I have shot with both 777 and pyrodex. I am going to try real black powder too. Just have to figure out where to get it locally as I dont want to order large ammounts on line.

i tried triple 7 in my rifles with PRB at at 50 yards it did great, but at 100 yards, #2 and #3 shots would drop 11" while #1 shot hit perfect.

Pyrodex or Goex for me only.

Triple 7 isnt consistant enough for me to spend the extra $$ on.

My mother in law bought me a pound of the JimShockey Gold for X-mas.. It says no lube on the patches and no cleaning between shots... I figured I will shoot it up first, then try the real stuff to see if there seems to be a difference. I shot some Pyrodex that my friend uses in his flintlock, seemed to work good, though I was looking forward to that big smoke cloud I hear about, and it for sure will bring home the backstraps.. which is the most important thing to me

We live on an island requiring hazmat shipping permits to get the holy of holies, so most folks shoot subs.

My shooting pard is a real fan of 777, using it in all his ML's- 54, 50, 36 and 32. He's given up on the 2F altogether and shoots 3F in all of them. He seems to work as hard as me in the cleaning department, but it's hard to argue with his results both on paper and hair.

I'm still using mostly Pyro because I inherited a bunch out of a friend's estate. I was really happy with the P in everything, but I'm having trouble with the RS and Select in anything under 50 cal, and they're only good for me in the 50 at near max charges. They're fine in the 54 down to 50-60 grain charges, even if they're a lot more cruddy than the P. For reduced loads in the 50 and 54, as well as all loads in 32 and 36, I'm getting best results with P, Pyro's version of 3f.

I do have a little bit of the holy of holies from the same estate, but I'm squirreling that for the day I get a rocklock. I've got a lead on a couple of hazmat shippers, so maybe I can be baptized into full citizenship in the near future. But in the meantime, I'll stick up for anyone using subs.

2"-3" @ 50 yrd. is still pretty good. I would say that shooting that many times without swabbing the barrel out is more to blame than the T-7 . Even if you not having trouble loading, you still have some build-up in the barrel. Try to run a cleaning patch down it after 5 or 6 shots and see how that does.
That's still mighty fine shooting.

The last 20 rounds were 777 FFG. I do get better accuracy cleaning between shots as I also get better accuracy with Pyrodex but when I just want to blast away it is nice that I can get 2"-3" groups without cleaning between shots.

My best 5 shot group at 50 yds was .75" but 2" is more the norm when cleaning between shots.

I must confess that I use a globe front sight with a circle insert and a rear peep sight.

You can get .018 lubed pillow tick patches at http://www.octobercountry.com/products3.php?productid=203

and at http://www.possibleshop.com/patch.htm

The ones I bought were from a sport shop and were thompson center .45 -.50 .018 pillow tick patches lubed with bore butter.

If you want to " Blast away" Fran, get a suppository rifle that is a semi-auto. You can even buy a semi-auto version of the Thompson Machine gun is that is what trips your trigger! If you short cut loading procedures you will sooner or later find a ball stuck half way down the barrel, and will spend the next half hour cursing and getting your blood pressure up as you try to get the damn ball out of that gun.

Been there, done that. Learned my lesson. I hate to see other guys repeat my mistakes. I don't even pick my ML rifle up any more if I am in the mood to " Blast away ".

Boy, I do! I'm still trying for the illusive five shots in 60 seconds starting with a loaded flint rifle but I'm close (using a ball-block and horn).

Try a Seneca Run or a snowshoe biathlon and you'll see speed reloading in practice can pay off. Or a woods walk where you have 60 seconds to break two targets starting unloaded. Also a team event shooting breakable targets for shortest time rewards the fast reload and multiple shots without wiping (as can a squirrel hunt or a deer regaining it's feet after an unseen branch deflection of the ball).

If you haven't practiced it you'll look like a bag of elbows trying to load from the bag while standing without a bench or table available for the first time in years.

Different strokes for different folks.

Best way I know to practice for fast hunting reloads is to do it. Take ten steps away from the bench. Load only from you pockets or bag, and see how fast you can do it. No fair dropping anything on the ground.

I'd have more room for elbows in my bag Stumpie if I had fewer thumbs!

One of two names I really dislike seeing here at
the MLF....The other being Toby Bridges :shocked2: Neither have any respect for
traditional. Both are oppertunist(sp) to Knight
and the other I/L purveyers(sp).
Either name is offensive to me. One thing I will say about Shockey, he does not attack the
traditional side, while Bridges has made a
living from it.
If Mr Bridges would spend a bit more time,
thinking, rather than running off at the mouth........He is a supposed to be an expert,
or at least perceived as one by some.
Honestly, I have to wonder has he ever gone
against a true expert in traditional M/L
shooting.Open sites(sorry no scopes). Traditional
hunter folks would not consider a shot over 100yds for the most part ethical. Mr Bridges
on the other hand is willing to harvest a deer
at 200+ yards. I will tell you one thing about
hunting Ohio,a 200yd shot would be:youcrazy:
no matter the type M/L. But in all honesty and
because of the $$$$$$ to him I have no doubt
that Mr Bridges would attempt such a shot.
He is not a hunter but a prostitute to the I/L
industry.IMHO
