Hi,I'm a new guy just geting back into muzzleloading. I just came home from the range i'm having with my T/C renagade It's the old style lock and it is stoping at halfcock andeating flints. So do I have a problem with just the lock or lock and settrigger? Thanks :

Check to see that you have not screwed in the lock plate screws so tight that you now have parts rubbing against the wood in the lock mortise causing the problems. This is the usual problem. The forward stock bolt should never be screwed down HARD. And the center bolt only needs to be screwed down firmly enough to align the stock place in the mortise so that the bolster lies against the barrel without a gap. If you do have something wrong with the lock, which may be the cause for " eating " flints, as you say, send the lock back to T/C. They have a lifetime warranty and will replace or fix it for you.

Early T?C flintlocks were problematic and later redesign corrected this deficency. Contact Thompson Center as their customer service is second to none.
Good Luck,
BPWRL

You can also take the lock out of the stock and check the internal parts. There is a plate inside that holds the small parts in line, and on my old .54 Renegade the screws that hold that plate used to loosen up and cause problems. Once I had everything back in line I took out one screw at a time and used a little Loctite to solve the problem.

I believe the older Renegade had the double set trigger. If so you might check to see that the fly is in place and it moves freely.

Thanks guys I will checkout lock plate screw if that dosn't work I'll call t/c.THANKS AGAIN
FYI...nothing you can check or do with your existing old style lock will improve it like TC's redesigned lock assembly...needs different redesigned parts to improve it so it'll be 100% reliable and stop eating flints...
