I do not like the idea of having a "truck gun", if that is defined as ANY unsecured firearm left in the vehicle.

I do keep a 9mm semi-auto in an anchored, out of line-of-sight, LOCKED GUN SAFE in my vehicle for use in any emergency situation if needed. It would take some time for a thief to open, and time is not usually something they have.

Never store handguns in a glove box or center console. They are easily broken into, and are the first places thieves look. A trunk is not much better.

My problem with keeping a loaded BP gun in a vehicle is static electricity. Like when you grab it and the shock goes between the gun and you. I know it’s rare, but it has caused fires at gas stations. Would not be unheard of for it to cause a cap to pop.

Maybe that’s just an urban legend but I’ve alsways felt that way
Black powder doesn’t have vapor like gasoline.

For every pot, there's a lid, and individual circumstances always dictate what's a good idea and what's not. Regardless of federal "it's not a firearm" designation, they are still deadly weapons everywhere and local law prevails.
If a person is, for example, legally enjoined from possessing a modern firearm but permitted to possess a C&B revolver - it may be the only option and better than bear spray for personal defense.
This is an interesting question; as a C&B is indeed a deadly weapon, there may be some prohibition on it's possession by an ex-felon. Imagine a guy who's an ex-offender, a felon, getting stopped by cops for some reason; they'd plotz upon seeing his C&B revolver! Then, they'd haul him in, confiscate his 1860 Colt or whatever, and charge him, whereupon the "law" would have to muddle the question; meanwhile he'd not get the Old Army (or whatever!) back, ever. Does anyone out there know if this question has ever been written or judged upon? Once someone is convicted as a felon, they kind of lose rights most of us take for 'granted'. Not a Firearm, indeed!

As Ed McMahon would have said, "You are correct, Sir!"

It depends on where you live

If you have a 'round town beater and you live out in the hinterlands, and keep a .44 brasser with 5 beans in the wheel under the seat , I don't think it matters as much as someone who lives in a populated area and drives daily with the loaded gun in the car

When I get pulled over, the officer always asks if I have weapons in the car. I have a ccw permit so I can keep whatever I want in the car, within reason. The cop would probably laugh at me if I was like "I have a pair of loaded Colt Dragoons in the back seat " he'd probably be like, let me see those things......ok be safe Jesse James.

Have fun explaining they can't easily be unloaded though

YouTube is full of guys who are Felons encouraging people to carry cap and ballers

I'm like. I wish these idiots would leave our hobby alone and stop looking for loopholes to carry guns. You "made a mistake " ok yeah, we get it. But if these people mess up mail order cap and ballers for people who shoot these to relax and have fun, and enjoy collecting them with the ease of ordering them over the mail...are going to be PO'd to the first order

If you're a felon and you want protection, I guess you better get good with a Samurai sword and your fists because a gun is a gun in court.

Used to be you could leave your truck unattended with long guns visible in the rack at the rear window. For virtually everywhere those days are gone.
Gone forever. Dog gone I miss them. Not just the rack but lots of other stuff from the same time.

First off I don't have a truck. My vehicle weighs around 6,000 Pounds. If I can't flatten them with that a gun isn't going to help me. Growing up in the metro NYC area I learned to spot sticky situations at an early age, and how to avoid them.

@Stantheman86 "The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed" I don't find it as much a joke as you do. If someone has made a mistake, and we all have...and some bureaucrat chooses to label some mistakes as untouchable... they want all guns, and that's just one way to eliminate a good portion right there. If someone is doing right and doesn't have any ill will, I don't see any morale reason a man shouldn't have the right to protect himself, his family, and anyone who needs help. If it's legal, it's legal. Felons hunt every year with "guns" legally.... you don't often hear of "active" criminals running around with cap and ball. If they are still in that life, they are going carry a modern arm, law be damned. If someone goes out of his way to try and abide by the law... he's on the right track in my book. To each they're own I suppose. You either want them un-regulated or you dont. Good day.

do what you will in your truck.

It's all fun and games until muzzleloaders are regulated like cartridge guns because "felons" are on YouTube shooting zombie heads to "show how much power a .44 Navy has " and showing people how to install
.45 ACP conversion cylinders

Dude right in the Midway reviews is basically like "I'm a felon and need me some protection do i have to tell my Parole officer about this piece " and other people " nah you're good it's not a gun" for the .44 Navy snub. Come on, that's absurd.

Plus, good luck in court to these people if they ever use their "loophole " guns to actually shoot someone, even if it's a clean shoot . Tell the judge the guy on YouTube said it was ok

It's funny how anti-gun YouTube seems to be ok with these videos.....

The law is the law , it's just how it is. Right or Wrong , just or unjust , constitution notwithstanding , if you're a felon you can't own firearms or anything with a trigger in most States. You want to go out and hunt with a CVA Hawken with a Felony, fine, whatever it's on you. But if you're gonna live in a Gray area it's probably better to not draw attention to yourself . Do you and weigh the risk vs reward

Using Italian repro percussion revolvers or Ruger Old Armies as a way to get around the law to carry a firearm isn't helping anyone. I hate to sound selfish or like a "fyigm" guy but "loophole guns" and all this c rap is ridiculous. Carry a good knife then. If the day comes when I can't order blackpowder, cap and ballers or buy caps over the mail because the Felons ruined it, I'll be surely thinking about their rights

@Stantheman86 There is no such thing as a "loophole". Sounds like Democrat speak.... it's legal or it isn't. Period. Some states say yes. Some say no. So in a no state, it would be illegal and no different than a modern arm. Some states literally just use the federal definition of firearm for law. In NC, felons hunt on game lands all the time, and you can bet your *** they get checked by the game warden. In some states a felon can't have "any" weapon. You may not like it, but that's no different from someone who doesn't like guns on the left not wanting you to have any.... We are suppose to stick up for our felow man's rights. If someone's breaking the law, they should be punished. The punishment should have an end. I prefer dangerous freedom myself.
You know the quote...First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

They want to separate us and destroy all rights. I won't join that ideology.

To summarize my feelings that I stated before this got weird......

If Felons are using muzzleloaders as "alternatives" they need to keep their mouths shut, stay off social media, and stay in their lane . If it's legal , fine. If it's not, they are eventually going back to prison. People have had their parole violated for having a screwdriver on the coffee table.

You want to carry a cap and baller as a Felon? Fine, whatever. People with DUIs still drive , take the risk, it's on you . If the Felon is legal in their state, cool. Again......they need to stay off the freakin internet about it like "I found a legal way to still carry a gun " you're just thumbing your nose at the ATF

People with felonies continuing to use muzzleloaders, can't be turning it into a "movement " or a trend, like they're sticking it to the man by carrying a Pietta and they're going to brag about it.

Sure, I'm selfish. I enjoy my rights and being able to freely own all kinds of guns. I'm tired of 1000s of "felons " making videos about carrying cap and ball revolvers. They need to shut their mouths.

If some dude wants to hunt with a muzzleloader who's a Felon, shoot a deer and go home no one cares.

You want to publicly talk about killing people with a cap and baller as a Felon carrying a repro Pietta? That's just bizarre , not doing 2A any favors and just being a complete *****

Yeah this is the way to go right here......quality content. We need more videos of felons with millions of views talking about carrying speed loading Pietta Remingtons......oh wait there's 100s like this

Nah, that doesn't happen.
They are "percussion", meaning being hit with something. Have you ever heard a percussion drum corps make noise with sparks?
The whole static discharge and BP is and has been proven myth decades ago.
You go ahead and stay cautious, nothing wrong with that at all, ✌️
I got to thinking about that as well and static will not ignite black powder but I've never seen a test done on caps being ignited with static. Cap fulmate may be a different story.

Do you report these videos as you see them?

I see nothing here to report.

The guy is very carefully explaining Texas law and using the law, not a loophole, to carry a Cap n Baller.

If there is any possible way for a person to carry a gun LEGALLY in America, then people should try and figure out those ways.

When I hit the start button, I fully expected to hear some gangbanger singing the praises of Cap n Ball for bank robbery, **** and murder.

Perhaps a video of actual violent criminals talking up CnB is in order.

"6,000 Pounds. If I can't flatten them with that". If you are stopped in a line of traffic circumstances may not permit the use of your 3 ton bludgeon. If someone is stopped close behind and you can not see the back tires of the car in front of you touch the road you don't have the room to maneuver out of the line without causing/taking damage. Courtesy of a defensive driving course we were required to take every other year.

In defense of the OP. I lived in Idaho before moving to the rainy side. When out in the sticks, A truck gun makes sense. I’d be leery about doing it where I live now. Way too many car prowlers and liability if it somehow was used in a crime.

As for staying loaded, I found this post very informative. Although I don’t leave it in the truck, I’ve often been tempted to keep it loaded for my next jaunt in the woods as opposed to discharging it at a trailhead or pulling the charge.

I have two questions. 1. Will the black powder / synthetic rust the chambers over time? 2. Would pellets be preferable to loose powder for any reason?
