Hello, my name is Camron Palmer, I recently inherited a 1853 black powder gun I think it was a civil war gun but I’m trying to find out information on it. I’m 52 I live in Rockledge, Florida, and I would really like some help on finding out the worth of my gun or rifle or musket. Thank you.

Agree with the above. It's a M1842 Springfield Musket. Lock is dated 1853, the barrel should have a matching date on the tang of the barrel. Somehow and I can't tell from the video, but the sling swivel on the trigger guard is on backwards. Ramrod is either broken or not original to the gun. Need clearer pics to get a value.

FYI the M1842 was the first model of to adapt the percussion system as a standard, and was the last .69 cal smoothbore made as the standard weapon for infantry. There were percussion guns made for the military before this, but not as the standard arm of the infantry.
