This is one of two little adjacant green fields (1 acre and 3 acres) where I turkey hunted this spring...turkeys always forage through these two little fields...woods on three sides and a road on the 4th (I took this photo from the road).
This spring I sat just inside the edge of the woods, put the decoys out where these birds are now, and called occasionally...

This morning this field had 2-3 hens and I assume 2 broods, and the other field had 1 hen and her brood...they were noticably larger than these poults, like they were born 2-3 weeks earlier than these.

Cool. That's always good to see, especially in a spot you can hunt! Been seeing poults around here of all ages, from half grown birds to week old young from renesting efforts. We need a good year hatch here, past two have been pretty poor - which means next spring it'll be all jakes or smart 3 year olds.

Hi RB,

I'm just east of where those pictures were taken (Berkshires Ma) and a little bit higher elv. (ca. 1500 ft). We have broods here looking good of similar size, one hen has over a dozen. Another hen must have lost her first brood as her poults are ca. 1/2 as big, hope they fill out enough to make the winter.

I've not cut one of my fields to give them all a place to grow, see them there every time I go through (far away from my rasberries/blueberries too , keep them there...for now).

No digital camera or could contribute some pics, new rifles had preference over other things........

Thanks for the pictures!
