I read about that in this forum recently and it got me thinking about possibly using one (1842 Springfield smoothbore musket)for turkey hunting.
Any body use one for that purpose? Thanks for any info.
 
no i never used one but i see no reason why you could not work up a shot load and use it.

after the war between the states. a few bought up surplus muskets and bored them smothe and sold them for use as shotguns.
 
Never used a '42 but my bess does the job just fine. :hatsoff:
that '42 should hold its own .
throw some shot at some paper to see how it hits and then you'll get a good idea at how close you'll have to get them in.
