I have found the copper and nickel plated shot patterns better and penatrates better too. I like 11/4oz. of 7.5 copper in the 20ga. 4 thin overpowder cards over the powder and the measure set at11/8 for the charge of fffg powder. Good to 25 yds in my Mod. French type Fowler. In the 12 bore 13/8 oz. of 7.5 copperplated and =fffg powder. ,same 4-thin overshot cards over powder, but 3 styro-cushsion wads then shot and 1-overshot card. The styrowads are made from a 12ga.barrel cut off sharpened that cuts the wads from Styromeat trays that the wife throws away. They fall off the shot realfast and don,t knock a dognut in the center core pattern. They chushsion and protect the shot to from flat spots and give a good pattern. Well off to the turkey targets. I have found that when the shot penatrates a metal soup can you have the power you need for turkeysat that range.

Where do you get the copper and nickel plated shot at?

Get me a link and I'll be happy to add it to our suppliers list in the links section...

In my 62 I use 7 1/2 and 4 mix. 70 grains of 2F with 2 over the shot cards, the second I stick in my mouth and get real slobbery I then put 1 1/4 shot down on top with one over the shot card. This gives me a good 70% penetration at 30 to 35 yards through a 1/4-inch piece of plywood. The pattern through my barrel with no chokes is about 24 to 28 inches with a few flyers at that yardage.
At 15 to 20 she hold at about 18 inches across .
i also make about 4 quick loads , them dang turkeys are quick i tell ya

I,ll be using a 12bore Flint 44" I have not patterned it yet or shot it. But I,ll try some of the same goods as I used in the 10,11,20 ga. smoothies. I really want a 16ga. some day too. I have access to pressed in choke tubes for a permament tight shooting turkey gun,but then no balls. But I will see how well the gun shoots without the tube ,which you cannot see once its in. You have to fold the cards and put them in side ways and the rammer tip will right side them past the choke. My best turkey was a 10ga. blk-powder double in a caplock 22.5 ,11beard,13/8" spurs at 20 yds after calling him 1-hour and over 300 yds into range. Comming this fall I use the flint-12 bore for Male or female whatever gets in range is a good turkey with the smokepole flinter. I like to rabbit hunt too with my beagle and flint fowler and Squrriel hunt to with the smoothie and .38 longrifle.

Tell me more about these pressed in chokes. Is the barrel heated very hot, almost red, then the tube put in and the barrel allowd to shrink onto it. That would keep it in place, but pressed in cold doesn't seem to be very strong.
: I've not heard of these before.
: If there is enough meat for threading, perhaps a cylinder sleeve would allow ball.
: I am also assuming the press-ins are for extra thin barrels, too thin for threading and that there is some expansion of the barrel steel itself that would help to hold them tightly. I would think there is a very slim margin for error.

The inside is turned on the lathe to accept the tube and its press fit cold, tapped in and with hi-temp loctite,( and no it will not come out without heat and a extracter). You cannot see the seam. And yes if there is enough stock in the barrel screw-in chokes can be fitted. But I like the pressin its does not take away from a period fowler, but will take a turkeys head off! THe Tech is from modern turkey target card guns for money and they hold smokelees pressures. Bob at 330-725-4696 in Ohio is the master and my friend,My name is Dave, hope this helps you sir.

Thankyou for the information. No Sir's around here, Dave. We're all friends, some of us just haven't met yet. :) :)
