I have a TVA Early Virginia Rifle 50 cal. Does anyone have one of these rifles and Chronod different loads? I do not own a chronograph, thanks for any information.

I had one 42" x .50 and killed deer with it for several years. I eventually had to sell it and I still hate that. That rifle was the BEST rifle I ever owned for offhand shooting. It seemed to lock on target which made small groups almost routine. It was nose heavy and the rifle weighed 8.5 to 9 pounds which is why it shot so very well.

Barrel make, caliber, and length will have more affect than gun style when comparing velocities.

For example, I have a TVM Early Virginia with a 42" bbl. However it is a .54 caliber Colerain bbl. So to extrapolate your gun velocities from my data would be crude. I remember getting in the high 1900's with 110 grs of Swiss FFg. My son's .45 Cabela's with a 28" bbl throws 'em at just under 2100fps with 90 grs of the same powder.

As Black Jacque has mentioned, TVM was many barrel options. One of mine was a LongHammock and another was a Rice. They shoot a bit differently. Is it possible to learn who made your barrel? Length? Internal structure of the rifling: depth, number, round or flat grooves...

We might be able to help you, but need more info to do so.
