I have become pretty much hooked on flintlocks and have been shooting a .54 GPR which is very dependable, but I am ready to move up, although I am primarily a deer hunter I do enjoy small game and as most of my shots at deer are less than 50 yds a fowler seems like the way to go.
I like the shorter 36" barrel and prefer iron trim, I would appreciate pictures and anyone's advise or experience with the TVM fowler.

Thanks,
Tony.

If you can wait a month or 2 I'll post pics of mine. Iron furniture, premium++ maple, aged finish. Only thing is, mine will have a 42" barrel.

Just noticed you're from Tuckerton. If you want to take a ride north, you're more than welcome to check it out in person.

Edit: if you get out to Dixon's, there's one there stocked in cherry.

In case you do decide to order one, the law in NJ is very vague regarding sights on a smoothbore ML. I was told by the F&W northern region law enforcement captain (after he spent about 1/2 hour reading the law trying to find a loophole for me) that I would be better off having a rear sight than hoping a judge would interpret the law to say I don't need one.

Essentially, if it's a military replica, a rear sight is not required. But one is required on a "ML shotgun" in order to use it with a single projectile for deer.

Thanks for bringing that up, I would want a rear sight, did you order one for yours I did not see it as an option on the TVM basic option description.

Here is my TVM fowler. It has a 42" barrel, steel furniture, aged finish and Chambers Colonial Virginia lock. I don't have a rear sight but it may be a good idea.

TVM makes a damn nice product.
Here is my American fouler and tulle, TVM stands by their product and Matt and Toni are the nicest folk you could ever deal with.

You can order with a rear site I like the feather site looks good an ol timy.
you will many mixed feelings about rear sites here is mine.
I am a rifle shooter and competor so I shoot my shotguns the same way and am no way hampered by a rear site and depend on them for accuracy.
yes I can hit flying objects with a rear site and killed all but one grouse last fall on the wing.
Am I as good of a wing shot as Coyote Joe or Mike Brooks using a rear site?
No way in hell :rotf:
but it's the way I hunt and aim so it works for me.
I have found that my R.B. results are much better with a rear site. I don't shoot in NLMRA no site events, our local CO shoots arn't pertentious and rear sites are not frowned opon.

Thanks. Your posts are the best. :hatsoff: I love your equipment but there is something wrong w/ the locks on your guns...

I just called last week and added a rear sight to mine. Asked Matt to use a low rear sight so I can (hopefully) ignore it for wingshooting.

Not a 'fowler' but had Matt build an Early Virginia using a Rice 38" swamped .62cal smoothbore barrel with a rear sight.
For wingshooting I add a piece of black tape across the back side of the rear sight to cover up the slot so its not distracting, then just use it with the front sight showing on top of the rear sight...as if the rear sight was a 'rib'.

My TVM fowler was ordered with a rear sight and Colonial Va lock. The serpent side plate sits proud. All browned steel with dark stained P+ stock.

Greenmountain: How long are the barrels on those guns? Boy they're as pretty as they shoot, and yours is, too, Basset.
I shoot a 42 inch smoothbore.
It give a little more weight for those heavy loads and the balance point is better for me with a long barrel.

It's just a reflection in a mirror :haha:
Zonie posted pics of a original left hand lock that was taken off a tulle so I know it's H.C.
I am right eye dominate but diden't find out until my second year competing in Biathlon and then it was to late because I had been shooting left hand sence age five and this old dog can't change.
cool thing tho both my six year old daughter and wife are right handed but left eye dominate so I taught them to shoot left handed. That makes it easy for them to use any of my guns.

Thanks everyone for the photos and opinions, I am trying to quit smoking and have promised myself when I hit 60 days without a smoke I can place my order with TVM.

Tony.
