thats a great point crackshot.
TOTW is a distributer, not a manufactor. they buy from PR and TVM add their %50 markup..That's why the TVM is a good deal.
I wish Tom Fuller flint inc would sell direct :hmm:

does anyone have problems with the routed ramrod groves causing stocks to break due to weakness or does the barrel installed make up for this???

Brubincam,

First, it is arguable whether the milled channel does weaken the stock significantly. However, I believe that bedding this area correctly can turn that weakness into strength. The barrel does support the area, but does a lot better with the accraglass supporting. I would not simply glue wood into the area when I could accraglass it. I did have a non milled and non bedded rifle crack through the lock mortice.

I recognize that this is not a period correct production method. There is nothing that I admire more than a totally hand made rifle without any compromise in the method of construction. However, a Colonial Williamsburg rifle is well beyond my means. Therefore, I have to compromise on some production methods to be able to afford a usable gun or abandon any possibility of owning some period styled long guns.

I have made the choice to use currently produced barrels and to glass bed them into stocks for cost, accuracy, safety and strength. These are areas where I have chosen to compromise for good reason.

Nothing particular against a drilled ramrod channel. I have Pecatonica River/ToTW, TVM Garner, TVM Avance and Jackie Brown guns. As Zonie stated, the PR Tennessee Classic was not milled. I bedded this gun and am quite happy with it. It also cost a bit more than the others.

I am not getting a kick back to recommend any method. (Although, I am available should anyone care to make an offer :rotf:)

I am just providing this info so the reader can make an informed choice. I also suggest that people make consider bedding and filling with glass if they purchase a milled ramrod hole.

The first is Jack Garner's TVM and the second is Matt Avance's TVM. Both are in Corinth, MS. Confusing? Yup.

Matt made guns for Jack as did Jackie Brown, who lives a few miles west of Matt and Jack. Jackie is just known as Jackie Brown, Gunmaker and lives in Walnut, MS. That gets confusing as well since there are two places in Mississippi named Walnut! I am sooo confused! I actually drove to the wrong one when I went to visit him. Visited Jack, Matt and Toni too. I have also bought guns from all three and think well of them.

Gee, maybe I can move over there, so I can make guns too! :)

Whats really confusing to me is that its Tennersee Valley ... but located in Mississippi! :hmm:

Thanks for clearing all that up,uh sort of.I'd guess that if they're all that closely linked, their offerings would be about the same.Price and quality wise.I've got an email into both the TVM's ,so i guess it's wait and see for replies. Thanks again.

I was thinking of ordering one of these since they're on special, but does anyone know what grade of stock they are? I wonder if it is the Grade A which is 0-15% curl?

Mine is a plain as can be imagined. But then, I wanted an inexpensive and very plain gun for a particular purpose. I understand that a wood upgrade is not all that high. I would order soon, since I think that the special was due to end shortly.

Not all of the Tennessee Valley is in Tennessee!

Besides if you shoot from Jackie's back yard, it lands in Tennessee. Jack and Matt are not much further South.

The TVM thing is not really all that hard.

Jack went into semiretirement and a lot of the business of making rifles was purchased by Matt and Toni Avance. Jack was making and reselling parts. He now has somebody (son in law?) who wanted to make guns and so Jack sells a few again too. However, he really likes being in the parts end of the business which is why he goes by "Tenn Valley Manufacturing" and Matt uses "Tenn Valley Muzzleloading".

I sorta wish that they would just hang our their own names, since some people get wrapped around the axle over the TVM name thing.

his sale ends today 11/14/95.
I am working on the .32 I bought from him and the wood is plain with not much curl, but it looks like it's going to have some nice tiger strips.
He has nice wood available and if you want to upgrade for a few bucks extra I don't think you will be dissapointed.
I have found him to be very pleasent to buy from.
Reasonable prices, ships fast and has what you ordered in stock.
I wish he had a shopping cart on his web site. I like to order in the evening and of course they are closed.
I also wish he had a bigger selection of parts,if he did. I would order all my parts from him and cut TOTW out.
Nothing against TOWT either. I would just rather buy from a manufactor then the distributer.

I've been trying to call him, but keep getting their answering machine all day. I have his add though and there it says the sale is good through 11-15-05.

Try this:

[email protected]

Tell him that the fella that earned his rifle money in New Orleans a few weeks ago sent ya. :)

He sent mine out before I got back and we arrived together!
