Generally, It costs me $65 to $75 to ship in a wood crate with delivery confirmation and insurance equal to the value of the gun. I request the customer send my crate back to me. Not that much $ value in the crate, but alot of ti
me putting it all together, that's why I have it returned....I don't want to be in the crate building business. :haha:
I have never had a customer complain about the cost of shipping.

Hey dcriner
can we see a picture of the rifle? Not to gloat but to see how this may have happend.

Are you :yakyak: I know I am not, but a business that handles packages should exercise more care than it looks like they did here.

Have a nice day :hatsoff:

They are pretty good about getting the claim settled.
Try getting a claim settled by the USPS vs. UPS. I will take UPS any day.

Could not disagree more strongly.
UPS once dumped a semen tank and I lost thousands of dollars. It was insured. They would not even talk to me. Other breeders have shipped tanks for decades with no problem. I have had USPS claims. They are a hassle but they do settle.

EXPLANATION: Rifleman1776 has been a cattle rancher. :haha:

I bought a rifle kit from a supplier, and he charged $65 for the crate to ship it in, then refunded my shipping when I sent it back.

S.K.,
No I am not perfect but for a company that handles tens of thousands of packages a day sometimes accidents do happen. I just happened to do a rebuttal of the 'goon' statement as I worked there and just like the USPS losing my mail/packages it happens. And like any place else, there are bad apples and I am really sorry about the breakage and am certain UPS will make good.

Cheers, DonK

My goon statement may have been harsh, but I do know a couple people that work for UPS and when I call them goons they smile :v

" Plus they do not mention the option, you have to know about it and ask."

Seems to be a pattern of sorts about not mentioning things that are pretty important to a customer by some vendors, I do not know which would be worse, opening a box and finding a broken stock on my fowler or finding a oct.round barrel with no taper in either section, after finding the second it would probably become the first quickly.

Sorry, the gun has been picked up by UPS. But a photo would only have shown a crack across the wrist of the stock.

Here is my most recent email with TVM:

Good Evening Mr. Criner,
The next step is for UPS to deliver the rifle back to us for our estimate. Let me assure you that you will not be in the middle. The claim will be between TVM and UPS. If you have any concerns please call or email me.
Thank You,
Rod

Not harsh at all. I have a good friend who retired from UPS as a driver in N.Y and he had some storys about how packages were handled at his depot that that would shock people, or maybe not. It was conversations with him that I decided to have my guns mailed through the post office and not UPS. Not sure theres really much difference between the two but after talking to him there was no way I would ship a $1500.00, $2000.00 gun through UPS, ever. :shake:

Sorry to hear about your troubles, that really sucks and would be my luck, except my outcome probably would not have been as good....
What a disapointment, but it sounds very encouraging and that is great that TVM will accept responsibility and hash it out with UPS!

I have only had two issues with missing or damaged items that were insured. First was a range finder delivered to me by UPS. UPS dropped off at my door and somebody stole it before I got home. The mailer filed a claim and UPS refunded promptly and I received my refund from the sender quickly, turned out well in the end!

The other was USPS (post office) recently. I shipped a Pedersoli flintlock lock and trigger and when it reached the gunsmith to do the warranty work, the box was crushed, both ends opened, and contents missing 100%!!! The recipiant showed the postal employee as well as the postmaster at the P.O. when he picked it up! I filed a claim with USPS, they denied me, denied my appeal and I can't speak to anybody that is actually denying my claim! so I'm S.O.L I guess..., burns my ASS!!! The gunsmith said I would not get my insurance refund back from them and said I'd be one of the few if I did. I kinda laughed it off but reality came true quickly. Bottom line was UPS came through and USPS screwed me to save a buck! I hope they get theirs soon though!

I used to work for a company that recieved UPS regular and UPS freight daily. Speaking with the drivers and seeing damage constantly I can say UPS is ROUGH with their stuff, and was THE WOSRT shipping company we've ever dealt with bar none!!! Simply amazing! But they would follow up and come through with their claims better than most, but probably because they've had plenty of practice at it HAHA!

You are describing my life. Got screwed by the USPS, and never did get it taken care of.

Just yesterday, my newest flinter arrived with the toe broken off the stock by UPS. I filed a claim, and the driver stops tomorrow to inspect the packing and rifle. We'll see how it turns out here too.

I shipped a nice Tennessee rifle to Alaska. Heavy box. Rifle strapped to a 1x6 for rigidity. Heavily padded all around. Upon arrival in AK, box slightly wrinkled at one end. Stock split into about five major pieces. Had to have been dropped from considerable height on to a hard surface or thrown. This was USPS. But recently a rolling block I was shipping to Texas disappeared at 2:15 a.m. on 12/19/11 at the Dallas USPS Sort Facility. It's long gone buddy now.

Did USPS make good on the Alaska problem?

When an insured package simply disappears (stolen) like the gun at the Dallas sort facility, then I assume even USPS can't avoid responsibility for that. I was trying to imagine how a postal worker would sneak out with a box containing a long gun - maybe he just slapped a new address label over the original one, and threw the box into the outgoing pile? I don't know how much more registered mail costs, but my impression is that everytime it changes hands within the postal service, it has to be signed for.

Well, UPS driver stopped today and they wanted me to pack the rifle back up and ship it to the local facility for inspection. I mean, like they didn't have enough of a chance to tear it up the first time they handled it!! I politely refused and requested they come to inspect it at my house, or I would gladly send any pics they desired. I also, sent an email to the UPS claims person, and we'll see what happens. I'm guessing from what the driver had to say, that I'm heading uphill on quite a grade!

Based on my current experience with TVM, I think it may be better for the shipper to file the claim with UPS.

When the UPS driver came, I thought to look at the damage and the packaging, he didn't even look at it - he said it was my job to repackage the gun, and then he stuck on a new UPS label addressed to a UPS "Damage Clerk," and gave me a receipt for the package. That was yesterday, 12/15 - today, the package is in Memphis, on its way back to TVM. In my case, the original UPS tracking number is the same as the one used for the return. Here is what it says, so far:

I'd have said "Sure, I'll ship it if you'll accept and sign for a Fed Ex delivery C.O.D."
