I just bought a TVM kit gun from Dixons gun shop a few weeks ago. It's a 62 caliber fowler with 42 inch barrel. I have to inlet the lock, trigger, and breech the barrel on this one and was wondering, what up with all the screws? I've built afew guns from kits before but nothing like this. I got a bag with lots of screws but it seems I'm missing the ones that go thru the side plate. I got a long one that looks like it goes to the lock but I have another that is way to short. Is this the way these kit come or am I missing what I need? All the others I built had a screw that goes thru the tang and trigger plate a and this kit seems to be missing it also. I paid 500 bucks for the thing, you'd think it'd come with all the parts.. oh well I guess I'll have to deal with it. :(

If it is not there, they should make it right...

After all, it's their name that is on the line...

They sent me the wrong size ramrod thimbles on a gun I built a few years ago all I did is called and they were more than happy to make it right.

The way you describe the kit doesn't sound like it's from Tennessee Valley Muzzleloading. Is that one of the kits from Tennessee Valley Manufacturing? There are two TVMs, you know. And from Tennessee Valley Muzzleloading the kits come with the lock inlet and the barrel channel already cut, along with the ramrod hole being drilled too. I just got a rifle kit from Tennessee Valley Muzzleloading and it's all there, for sure. Le Grand

le grand is right, Yours sounds like J Garner kit.
I just finished a 28 gage from him.
No tang bolt, because he uses a #10 wood screw instead of a tang bolt.
I couldn't figure out what the "short" side plate bolt was all about..
I had him send me a Tang bolt and another side plate bolt.
Just a though TOW has those nice 3/8 headed round tang bolts that look a lot better IMHO.
I would give him a call. The bolts are cheap enought.

You are right. It isn't a TVM kit. It is Jack's. The shortscrew that looks like a short lock bolt, it's a dummy screw. A wood screw was probably included to use thru the tang. Give him a call and he will help you.

I had a similar situation with a collection of guns parts from Jack Garner and ordered a bolt to go through the tang to the trigger plate and also a lock plate screw. Apparently, Jack just uses a screw for the tang and a stubby cosmetic screw for the forward lock bolt. He says that the Tang bolt weakens the wrist and the forward lock bolt does nothing, but gets in the way of the ramrod channel.

I went ahead and ordered a couple of each to have on hand.

No disrespect to anyone, but I still think that we need to try to find a means of figuring out when we are talking about Matt and Toni or Jack. The TVM confusion is running rampant.

I have some packaging from Jack that reads: "Jack's Stock Shop." Maybe we should just start using that name for his outfit.

PS: Toni, Having met you, I really struggle with seeing you using the name Slash. You are just too nice for such a name!
