Several people have suggested I order a flintlock rifle from TVM. I am confused; there is a Tennessee Valley Muzzleloading and also a Tennessee Valley Manufacturing. They seem very similar on their websites. What is the story and which is the best?

hey Texan, I asked the same Q not long back and got several responses and PMs on both TVM's There's another TVM,too. Teche Valley Muzzleloading down in Louisiana.

I got positive AND negative repsonses on the two aforementioned TVM's. Seemed enough of a muddy clear answer that I called Tip Curtis. He's getting the nod from me. That's just the personal choice I'm making. Either or TVM might be able to provide you with the products and services you're looking for. You'll probably get some better responses soon.

TVMuzzleloading run by Matt and Toni Avance are good to work with and provide a great product. I just got an Early Virgina Rifle from them and it is wonderful. I am not sure but I think the other tvm does not offer finished guns and his kits are more work than the Matt and Toni kits.

Tennessee Valley Muzzleloaders is owned by Matt & Toni Advance and they make a very fine flintlock. Tennessee Valley Manufacture is owned by Jack Garner who makes and sells muzzleloader parts. I have worked for both of them and they all are super nice people. They only live about 5 miles apart.

I am wanting something that points where I look in a .40 caliber fullstock flintlock with a 36 inch barrel. I am currently shooting a Vincent built by a friend years ago and love it. I just have the itch for a flintlock. In fact I would like one that fits just like my Vincent in a fullstock with a flintlock instead of percussion if that is possible. I also need not to spend my daughters college fund which is what I think some of the builders I have talked with want me to do. Thanks, Ed

Matt builds a nice gun. If you order from him (muzzleloaders), I would suggest you request a lock from Jim Chambers not TVmanufacture.

Tennessee Valley Muzzleloaders used to be owned by Jack Garner. Jack sold the business to another man, whose name I have forgotten. Tennessee Valley Muzzleloaders continues to produce kits and finished guns just as it did when Jack owned it. Same quality stuff, different owner. Jack intended to retire but then decided to open a business which supplied muzzleloader parts. His new business was named Tennessee Valley Manufacturning and was also known by the initials "TVM". To add to the confusion, both TVM businesses are located in Corinth, Miss. I have dealt with Tennessee Valley Muzzleloaders when Jack owned it and again under the new ownership. I have also done business with Jack's new business, Tennessee Valley Manufacturing. I have absolutely no compaints with either business. Both are honest businessmen who produce quality products.

I have used TVM LOCKS for allot of guns.
They beat L&R hands down.. not only that, but if you have a problem with one of Jack's locks.
He will fix it.. no questions asked. In a reasonable time... not like the "new L&R" Wish he had a bigger selection.
Plus there are allot of kit builders that use his locks.
They don't have that "polish" that chambers has.. but they function as well.

I've never heard any negatives concerning either of the TVMs. I have had no personal experience with TVManufacturing but do know Matt and Toni of TVMuzzleloading. I have several guns built by Matt and can tell you that quality is above reproach, prices are very reasonable and they will make sure you are 100% satisfied. Both sell kits and "Muzzloading" TVM kits are said to be one of the most complete and easiest to build. Jim Chambers also sell high quality kits but are a bit more work to build from what I've heard.

The negative part of that is news to me. I have never heard anything but positive comments about both.
I own a Matt Avance Fowler. It's a beautiful, reliable firearm. I get a compliment every time that I take it to the range or out hunting.

A picture of the aforementioned Fowler was requested. Here it is, just a stock photo off the TVM website.

Just a simple "poor boy" fowler.

I recently received my first "built" gun from Matt and Toni at TVM. Great folks to deal with and top notch product as well. Here's my Leman from TVM.
