Got one of their rifles and they sent a bunch of paperwork along with it. I lost the paperwork. One of the sheets was a maintenance sheet saying what they recommended for maintenance . For preservation they recommended an automotive fluid of some kind for the stock and metal. Anybody remember or know what the fluid is?

Type F transmission fluid.

Type F transmission fluid is unusual in that it is waxy, paraffin based I think. I've been using it on my guns for decades and it is great for metal and wood. Don't use it in the bore, for obvious reasons, but it "waxes" the wood and metal so to speak. I dampened a cloth with type F and keep it in a sealed baggie. Don't get it wet, just damp. A cloth dampened with Type F will last a long time and prevent rust and keep the gun looking good.

And per Motorcraft it prevents foaming!

Why not use it in the bore also?

thanks a ton on the type F fluid. Whoda thought transmission fluid would be good for this kind of thing. Wonder why more people don't know about it, or don't mention it. Never heard of this before but I guess I'll go get me a pint of the stuff and start using it. Is it good for all wood stocked guns?

Remember "waxy buildup"? It would possibly leave the bore coated with a thin film of paraffin.

I respect your thoughts but if it does, I’ll call it bore lube. I mostly do my target shooting with Hoppes 9+ which I would think would dissolve any wax. It also hasn’t plugged any transmissions up that I know of. Anyways that’s my take on it so I use it all over.
Shoot Straight.
