Actually finished this up in January, my first "build" outside of a TC Hawken some years ago.

I got side tracked numerous times.. for months at a time so it took almost a year to get it from parts to the range. and as result, during that time I lost almost all the progress pictures (since I quit uploading to photobucket)

anyways here it is, I decided to start with a simple and inexpensive kit for my first rifle

42" 13/16" 45cal straight barrel
Iron furniture/no entry pipe/muzzle cap
Standard Siler/double set triggers
Plain Maple

I used LMF maple stain with a few coats of permalyn sealer (no finish as of yet, I kinda like the dull look with the brown steel on a simple rifle like this)

I cant help but drool, looks good brother. Im planing of building similar rifle down the road in 45 as well. How heavy is it finished and what barrel did you go with as far as make. How does it shoot??

I'm not sure who the maker of the barrel is. I've only had a few chances to get it out to the range so far but with a load of

60gr 3f Olde Enysford
.440rb and mink oil on pillow ticking
its doing fairly well. atleast for 30 yards. ive got alot to experiment with as id like to find a real light load for squirrel that groups aswell

that's 5 shots on 2" dots

Omg thats some good shooting, I have to say your lock plate work looks better than most. Even the Southern rifle on TVM site is not as nice and thin. Good work!

You did a very good job, she looks great. I really like the finish you did on the metal parts. Green Mtn. barrel perhaps?. You can call TVM and ask.
I've been building a TOTW S.Mtn. rifle kit for a while, I hope it turns out as nice as yours.
Your's is a good shooter, just keep playing with those loads, you'll tighten them up.
Enjoy that new smokepole, thanks for posting pics.
