In Michigan, with a combo license you're allowed two bucks. One buck of any legal size and the 2nd buck must have 4pt's or better on one side. They can be taken with a bow, modern rifle or muzzleloader. I started out bowhunting on Oct 1st and hunted until Nov 15th when the regular gun season opened. All through the bow and regular gun season I didn't take a buck., When the special Muzzleloading season opened in Dec., the bucks came into their 2nd rut. This is the results, a 6 point and a 7 point taken just two days apart with my .62 Jaegar flintlock. Both bucks were traveling with does and were shot under 50 yd's.

You are the man.....Congratulations!!

(what's all that white stuff??????? )

.62 Jaeger? I don't see daylight through them??

Did you shoot below their feet so the fall would kill them and save on meat damage?

:haha: , nope, The 6 pt. only made about 50yd's with a PRB through both lungs. The 7 pt dropped on the spot from a shoulder hit.

The gun was loaded with 120gr's 2ff behind a 600 patched round ball. After 26 hunting seasons, "Ole Thumper" my custom Jud Brennan rifle is still puttin meat in the freezer.

Very nice! Our season here in PA opened on Monday. On a sidenote, I am interested in your flourescent orange hooded cape/shawl. Do you have a pattern for it?
We are not required to wear orange in the flintlock season, but are during the regular firearm season. I have been looking for a way to meet the requirement yet still hold some semblence of distinction without having the two centuries collide. What you are sporting may very well be what I have been searching for. Any help would be appreciated.

hey gobblerknob, I too admired the cape in the photo, and for reasons like yours desire one for Iowa ML season. I have found a pattern that is almost identical. And requires only 1 yd of material. The pattern is McCalls #4627. It has only 3 pieces which inludes the hood. I found a blaze orange fleece material, and will use one yard of similar color rayon for the lining . Including the pattern, I will have under twenty bucks in it. Hopefully I will have it done today, and can use it for my last hunt in mid-January. Hope this helps. Peace, mothernatureson
