Recently got a Traditions Kentucky Kit. It appears that I inlet the lock a little too much. Hammer and Nipple don't line up. What's the best way to resolve that problem?

Another issue I have is a slight gap between the butt stock, joining plate, and forestock. I had to do quite a bit of work there. The joining plate hanged nearly a quarter of an inch lower than the end of the butt stock, while the forestock covered the joining plate nearly the same distance. Talk about a rough stock! I sanded the brass to match the butt stock and sanded forestock to match the brass as well. The flat ends of both stocks where they meet was very rough, very uneven and I had to sand them a bit as well, apparently a little too much. Any ideas?
