I was at the range with my Flintlock rifle last Monday and saw a Uberti Colt 1962 Police .32 being sold as used. It looked new, so I broke it down, worked the action and found it flawless. It even had the original oil on the cylinder shaft. I've been wanting to get back into BP pistol shooting anyway so I could'nt pass up this little jewel. I had a chance to fire it Tursday using 15 gr. fff BP, fiber wads, and .375" balls, only ones available. From pass experiences with a 1960 New Army Colt .44 I expected the thing to shoot high, BUT 18" at 25 yards? Plus the the grouping was about 5". I've ordered .380" and .389" balls to help the grouping and purchased a 1/8" brass rod to make a new, taller, front sight. Other than these issues the revolver fired flawlessly baring the occational jamming by spent caps. BTY I plan on designing the new front sight to match the style used on the Remington New Army. If all goes well with the replacement front sight and the larger balls I'll order another cylinder for it and make a loading block for faster reloading. I'll update on the front sight and performance when I get the larger balls.

This pocket navy is on the same frame and has the same chamber capacity but keeps the pre-1960 features of the Navy. It also shot way high and the owner dovetailed it for this taller sight. It's a good shooter but, like your's is prone to cap tie-ups.

It needs a bit of relief on the side of the frame between the hammer and caping notch- a process that works with the 31 pocket models Ive used it on.

Bluemax-CT, Perhaps I'm confused somewhat but you state the gun is .32 cal and your using .375 dia balls? The 36 cal C&B revolvers use the .375 not the .32 cal, which would require a ball dia. more appropriate to a nominal 32 cal. Larger diameter balls would only be necessary if your not cutting a ring from the .375 balls when loading a .36 cal, otherwise going to a larger dia. will do nothing but make it harder to load.

1960 and 1962... don't you mean replicas of the 1860 and 1862?

Frequently .375 balls are marginal-particularly in the Uberti Replicas. You notice this when one slips into the chamber with little or no pressure. This often happens because the swaged commercial balls are not exactly round or exactly the stated size. If you have a fairly full chamber, moderately firm seating will expand them to fit and there is seldom any detectible decrease in accuracy or forward creap from recoil.

.380 balls are available by way of Lee moulds, Warren/Ozark bullet company and perhaps through track of he wolf.

I believe the ".32" was a slip of the finger.
The 1862 Police Revolver is a 5 shot .36 caliber pistol.
IMO, it is one of the most beautiful of all of the Colt pistols.
Because of its light weight it is hard for me to get good groups with it. My Uberti version only weighs 26 1/2 ounces unloaded (1 9/16 pounds).

Howdy Folks,
I have an Uberti 1862 Police and love it. When I first shot it, it was with .375 balls and after every shot, I had to reseat all the other chambers. The balls would move forward. No, not over loaded, 12 grains of 777 fff. I went to the Uberti website and found under the FAQ that Uberti recommends the .380 ball for all .36 cal revolvers. I started using .380 and no more moving balls. Now I use them in all my .36s.
