Hi All, I really like my 1860 army colt .44 and would like to buy another. The one I have is a Pietta. No problems with it but I'm thinking I'd like to try another maker.
My question is, have any of y'all shoot or owned a Cimarron?? I know from reviewing this forum that many of one have the Uberti, any regretts???
Texas Jack sells the Cimarron and has three different finishes. One of those is the original finish. It cost quite a bit more. Do any of you have any experience or knowledge of this??
Thanks much in advance, MJD

Cimarron is an importer not a manufacturer. Uberti, like Pietta, is a manufacturer and either may in fact make pistols for Cimarraon with Cimarron providing the specifications to the manufacturer.

Thanks Bill. I didn't know Cimarron wasn't a manufacturer. I went to ask.com and it turns out that Uberti make the Cimarron. MJD

Cimarrons are Uberti's. I bought one about Sept of last year(09). Cimarron goes through and polishes and picks out better fitting Uberti's. When you receive it you also have double the warrenty Uberti is 6 months and Cim is 1 year-if I remember correctly. I would have to get out the paper work to confirm. They also proof everything, frame, barrel and cylinder.
I purchased a 58 New Army Remington, with the shorter barrel 4 1/2" for ease of holster use.

Poor Private, At Texas Jack's there's a price differance of about 60 or 70 dollars between the uberti and the cimarron, the cimarron costing more. Do you feel the cost of the cimarron is worth it????? MJD

I got a Cimarron.
Fit and finish is first-rate. As far as finishes go on Cimarron guns, the charcoal-bluing is awesome, but needs to be maintained or it'll rub off fairly quick. You can always save money by buying a blued gun and antiquing it yourself. :v

mjd,
What I am using the pistol for is Civil war reenacting. Contrary to what some may think, even though we use blank loads, the guns do get used a bit harder than out range shooting. We drop them in the dirt, or wet grass when we surrender, or take a hit(die/wounded). They get confiscated by the enemy and sometimes others don't take the care of your pistol as you do. they get bumped, and banged against even while in the holdster.

Buy the Cimmeron if you want great quality. Buy the Uberti if you can settle for less. Buy a USFA if you want the best, if they still make C&B revolvers, and I think they do.

Jimmy, you mention antiquing the gun myself. I've gone thru my Track of the Wolf catalog for something that would antique the finish and can't find anything. What would you suggest??? Thanks much for your replies..mjd

Antiquing is done by removing the factory applied finish rather than by applying a different finish. Bluing can be removed with Naval Jelly or vinegar; it will leave a grayish surface that will develop a nice gray, antique patina in a short time.

Yup, just like Mykeal said. Vinegar soak is the cheapest and easiest. There was an article about antiquing an Army revlover on the net. It'll save you a lot of money and time having to take it to a gunsmith.

First impressions go a long way. Though it's not a muzzle loader, my first cimarron was a side by side 12 gauge (external hammers, 3 inch chambers) and this beast is SOLID. I would definitely go cimarron.

I got mine from Texas Jacks. Very pleased and good quality. Shoots great.I made a new, higher front sight for it and changed the nipples to Treso.

Naval Jelly removes the bluing and the case coloring as well! The whole gun willl be sort of a dove grey, if you will. Just wanted everybody to know about the case color disappearing as well, though this won't effect the strength one bit just makes the mottled shades go grey like the rest...should'a seen my face the first time!!!!! Who'dah thunk it??!!
