Got a new Uberti Walker from Cabelas this week. A Real beauty. One problem it shoots 6" high at 25 yds. With fixed sights how do I fix this problem? The grouping is within a 3" circle dead center but 6"" above the bulls eye.
Thanks

Fatman,

This is typical for Colt type guns. They were designed(so I've heard) to shoot high so they could be used out to 50 yards. You could file down the hammer tip where the sight notch is located and deepen the v notch or you could have a taller front sight installed.

Fatman, that is about where you want it to hit at that range. Remember they were made for man targets and you wanted to see what you were shooting at.

I do know what you feeling though I do as well it would be nice to sight it in for close pistol shooting. The 3" groups are outstanding good shooting

If you really want to fix it, the only solution I know of is to either install a higher front sight or lower the rear sight.

If it is hitting 6 inches high at 25 yards (900 inches) you would need to lower the rear sight (6/900) X distance between the front and rear sight in inches.
For my Walker the distance between the sights is about 13 inches so the answer is .007 X 13 =.087 or about 3/32 of an inch.

Because the rear sight is the top of the hammer you would have to shorten it by that much and recut the notch in the center.

If it were mine, I think I would learn to aim 6 inches below the center of the target rather than frinkle with the hammer.

Six inches over isn't too bad. The models with short beeds instead of blade front sight usually hit quite a bit higher.

the poin of aim here was right about where the text line is.

Well guys thanks for the insight.. I tried putting the front sight to where it was just visible in the lower part of the v notch of the hammer and this lowered it to about 3 " high. I might be able to live with that.
I tell you what though... this gun is a pleasure to shoot.

The original guns were sighted for 75 yards to satisfy military requirements. The modern replicas copied the Colt originals until just recently when the makers have begun putting slightly higher front sights on the revolvers to shoot closer to point-of-aim. If your Walker is shooting high, it would be one that Cabelas has had in stock a while since Uberti started adding higher front sights a year or so back.
