I have an action that is being worked on by John Taylor. I got it at Muzzleloader building supply. It is a huge action and a 1" barrel diameter looks narrow on it. The price was right at $60.00.

It will require drilling, grinding, and turing the trigger guard into a spring.

He does but I'm not sure what it is. Check the members here for John Taylor or was it Tayler. Sorry John. When we get my gun finished I'll post a thread on it. He's pretty busy guy though. Real good work. See my post on the underhammer he worked on for me. Pictures as everything.

You can get John [email protected] I belive thats right. I'll try Log Cab, but the DCs H+A frames have held up to 200 shoots from the 3 62s with anything from 150 to 200 grs of 2f and no problems. Fred :hatsoff: (ok it rattled my head a little :rotf:)

Log Cabin is same one as GMWW is talking about. If you look back over the last few months here you'll find some different kinds. Fred :hatsoff: Going out to test the 62 cal Zep right now (since Ive put old guy sights on it maybe I can see something to shoot at :rotf:

Bill,

Something like this??? :)

The 'frame' is not tubing, but machined/bent bar stock. The lockworks are on a insert, that fits into a milled recess..

Did you see the nice work he did on the end cap! My goodness!

Bill,

Yep, I and my Buddy Marlow < MRW on this forum > built it. It was my son's Christmas present 2003 from "Uncle marlow" and Dad.
Marlow came up with the idea to make an H&A clone..and has built some that were patterned even more closely. I DO NOT, like the pins running through the frame and suggested an inserted lockworks. Marlow handed me this frame and said "Lets see you do it! " when I was done with the frame and parts, he gave me the Walnut wood and suggested we make it as a gift for Colton.
The clean frame opens up some artistic possabilities. Lots of ways to fancy it up with engraving and such. That is as soon as I teach myself to engrave :winking: I have three more frames in the shop.. just have to find the time and clear up a few other obligations first..
If you have the Logan book, on Underhammers. The action is a modified Cook's design. The hammer throw is real short, about 0.75",and most people think they have it in the half-cock position.. I cast a rear, pewter pour on the forearm.. to act as a built in flash guard.. This lil' .50 cal carbine weighs in at about 5lbs 6 oz.

Hope that answers your questions??

Or like this one athe frame is brass bushing shaft with a slot milled out and trigger and hammer modeled after the H&A the barrel is held on with three set screws and I have a 15ga seamless tubing shotgun barrel for it as well

You guys are killing me. I keep pointing at the computer so my wife can see what I want. She just folds her arms with the raised eyebrow stare.

Does she have a knife in hand? :shocked2:

I have a nice hunk of brass that I can saw three receivers out of.........it is on my list of things to do.

Is it just my eyes or does that nipple/hammer combination look like it would blow cap fragments in all directions?
Is there a special leather glove you need to fire something like that?

Zonie :)

Zonie,

I beleive Marlow has installed a flash cup on it,, since that picture was originally taken. if I'm not mistaken,, that was taken 'just off the bench' and hadn't even been fired yet?? < Marlow may correct me on this>

On CJ's UH,, I cast the pewter 'cap' on the back of the forearm < to act as a flash guard > and the hammer's nose is recessed the full depth of a cap..

John has been out of town or would of put something up, he and we have been cooking up about the same idea, since i'm about out of new H+A frames, the trigger, hammer, spring,is no problem just use the H+As we got a good supply of those. Fred :hatsoff: John should be in by Monday, he bult amoung other things my 62 Zep barrel its just perfect dead on at 50 yds with 150grs 2f.

Hey Metalshaper, can you be persuaded in posting a how to with pictures on the pewter forearms? I'd love to do that with my guns. :v

No it doesn't blow fragments all over, or at least not anymore than say a TC Hawkin ,caps explode about the same right side up and they do upside down, the hammer nose has a slight recess and I do have a flash cup on it, in fact if Metalshaper's memory doesn't fail him he spun it on his lathe out of sheet copper for me. But yes UH's will spray a bit of stuff on your arm somtimes but not in your face which is one reason for the hammer underneath
