they all crack there, i spread the crack on mine and epoxied it. stays tight and has not recracked. i have seen them with a ring pressed onto the wood behind the receiver.

Mine hasnt cracked but I just put a lock washer in to fix the getting loose part , kids takeing me out back to shoot the 48er be back later.

Lock washer is a good idea. I read your post and put on in myself. Wonder what else can be done as preventative measures. I intend on shooting some stout loads. I suppose some lock tite might work too. :shocking:

use the blue locktite, not the red. the red has to be heated to remove. take it from an old harley rider, the blue works o.k.

I might improvise and use my wife nail polish. Boy hope she doesn't find out. :yakyak:

Dont know if this will help but Im thinking the cracks come from overtightning, my old 48" had a lock washer on it, so now that you got me worried about cracks I put a thin sting of old boot lace around the wood tightend it up and shot 15 150 gr loads out of it,I think it gets loose from to much compression on the wood when it gets tightnd down, the lock tite wont help for that, youll just be overtightning and jamming the wood again, hey at least it sounds better than the wood is to soft! Fred

I was looking at the the depth they cut into the butt stock and the depth into the rear of the receiver and the stock is shallow. You think I should fix that by cutting more depth for the stock. Or, should I put a spacer between the stock and the receiver in the gap? I was thinking something like a thick rubber gasket cut from an inner tube.

Still haven't gotten to the range as it was raining yesterday. Also tried to order a .45 cal barrel but was told to call back in 2 weeks as they are all out. :cursing:

Be careful what you do any cutting on,you cant put it back. Since they took the PMs I dont have a way to get a hold of you, it took my kid 3 months to show me how to get around on forum and now I guess Im a write off, they belive everyone has or knows how to use one of these things.I tryed the REALs out of the 48" and at 50yds they are 1/2"wider than the RBs.(60grs 2f),in the 26" 50 cal with scope they stayed inside 4 1/2", remember the bigger the cal the longer bullet you can get away with(and longer barrel) I think youll do ok with a 45cal, I must of got the last 45 32" barrel they had made Monday, sorry.Fred

Well the spare trigger and hammer were finally browned. I put them in the reciever and the hammer sear promptly broke! :cursing: OK so I'll send that back. I left the replacement trigger in and put my old hammer back. Seemed to work ok during the at home dry fire test.

I finally got to the range to test this bad boy out. First trigger pull and click! I looked down to find a small piece of metal fall out of the reciever!!!!!!!!! I looked at the new trigger and the sear cleanly broke. It too was very brittle.

I unloaded my gun and put the original soft trigger in. Remember the metal on it was soft. Well I was able to get off about 50 round balls. I could feel that the edges of the sear were begining to deform.

The good news is that this gun shoots pretty good at 75 yards. I was getting promising groups of about 2" with several on top of each other. Course it was pissing down rain and wind was pretty bad so my target basically melted.

I called Deer Creek up to tell them about the trigger and hammer. They will send me two sets of each. They said that the previous supplier put all the triggers and hammers in a pile and heated them up. Some got heat treated while others did not. When they recived them, they put them in the bin with all the good ones not knowing they had defective ones.

Hopefully with the two sets of triggers and hammers, I'll get a decent set. Deer Creek has been very good despite the hammer/trigger set back.

sounds promising in spite of the tribulations. can't wait until its reliable and broken in, not just broken.

I didn't think about taking a picture of the hammer break before I sent it back. Here is the break on the trigger sear. As you can see it is pretty clean break.

Anyways they said they'll be sending me more.

This is really baffeling, anyone got this too? All the blank I put my 2 thru and cant get them to mess up at all. If the 62 and 150grs cant break one or throw the scope off.. but that break I just really dont get it, hope your new parts fix it.

the new trigger i received works 5x5 look at my post in percussion under hammer range report.

The continuing Saga. Well I've got two spare hammers and triggers to use. They are pretty hard as I can't file them with a hand file. I just hope they're not brittle. I hope to put them through their paces later.

I ordered a second barrel in the 32", .45 cal 1:66" version. I also ordered a second forend to go with it. I was told it would take about 2 weeks and needed to be built.

I asked them if they would be willing to put the rear 3/8" dovetail back to about 5" from the breach. I want to put on a Peep sight and figured the longer plain may give me better accuracy.

Today it came in. Much to my surprise they did put the dovetail where I wanted it. To my disappointment I got a forend that is basically a 2"X2" block with the inletting for the barrel and rod. I did not get a rod or sights. I guess I need to order them too.

This first photo is of the barrel and stock as shipped.

The second photo is of the business end with a rubber stopper in the bore to keep the browning solution from entering the bore.

Currently I'm on coat number three and the barrel is turning brown. I'm going to keep the forend relatively thick as I want the gun to be heavy and used like a bench rest gun. I've given it the same shape as the forend on the first barrel but did not thin it.

GMWW, since they dont build the rifles now you have to order the parts you want, like a barrel, sights , ect, Someday they may get caught up again and build the H+As,Mowreys, for now you buy a compleat parts set and put it together yourself or as you did ( some places you dont get the sights cut or breach plug ect) as long as Mr Fagel is on the rifleing mch makeing great barrels Im happy your lucky I called about a barrel about the same time you did but wont come tiil Jan or later. Fred

I really enjoyed building mine. I had a hammer break while trying to get some of the “creep” out of them that they all have, Deer Creek sent me another one. I did buy a spare. They told me at that time that they had a bunch of hammers (and triggers, too) that were way overhardened. Here are some pictures of mine:
