Underhammer project

Hello all. Thought maybe I would share a few pictures of an Underhammer that I’ve been working on this past winter. The gun was finished basically to in “the white” by my gunsmith. The barrel is a 32” GM LRH 50 cal 1-28 twist. The action is from Taylor Machine. I ordered the stock set from Pecatonica LngRifles.
This is a rifle version of a 12ga Shotgun that John Taylor put together for me a few years back. I wanted a greater part in the finish of this one.

The turkey photo above is the 12 ga version. The next series show a little of the progression from the draw filing and sanding.

The last is the browning process. This is my first ever attempt at this portion. I used Homer Danglers Barrel Brown. I followed the instructions closely and put 4 total treatments.

Gunsmith John Taylor of Taylor Machine. He's a member here and his shop is now in Lewiston Idaho. If you do a general search for John Taylor or Taylor Machine shows quite a few posts that mention his work. He made the action for both of my underhammers, shotgun and current in process. Great guy and knows his stuff.

Truly a nice adaptation of the H&A, thank you for posting. Know I'm not alone in being a fan of that action. Super fast, reliable ignition with an easily understood action. Wear long sleeves when shooting offhand.
