I make all my bbl lugs...a couple dozen at a time, but don't file the 30 degree angles until installation. They're made from .035 brass. Actually the time to make a single lug would be 10 mins...so if your dovetail is oversize, simply make a new bbl lug. I use a 30 degree upsetting chisel to raise steel and after the lug slips in, the steel is peened down for a very tight fit and filed smooth...Fred

I is actually in "Recreating The American Longrifle, pg. 77 4th paragraph down. It also goes on to say that the tab will go all the way through to the ramrod channel when fully inlet. That I know is not what most builders shoot for, but happens from time to time.

Fletho,
I thought I might try making my own lugs on the next project. Doesn't seem to hard and it might be fun. We'll see how the rest of this project turns out 1st.

I'm going to take everyones' advise here and re-install all three and give it a go. Not all was lost though, it did allow me to file off the "ping" marks on the barrel from where I tried to use the pin punch to stake in that lug.

Thanks again
