At the advice of someone here on my earlier post, I recently contacted the Arkansas Muzzle Loaders Association, based in Hattieville.

Received several very inviting and welcoming emails in return, and was induced, against my will, to go out to their range. Everyone there was EXTREMELY friendly. They were almost competing to be more welcoming. They showed me about a hundred different guns, many of them beautifully handmade. They talked to me about my interests, explained all the equipment, introduced me all around, invited me to dinner, to matches, to shoot anytime. And even though I was very nervous about it, they showed me how to shoot a flintlock. And I hit the paper several times. A few hours later I was home maxing out my credit card.

Be careful about these folks. They are TRYING to addict you with their friendliness and knowledge and skill and niceness. Very devious. It works. :nono:

Now that was funny. On another site I frequent it is referred to as "Mentoring", which is basically helping, coaching, rooting them on, living vicariously through others purchases, all in in aide of helping others spend lots on new toys and feeding the addiction.

The method and tactics you describe are even more insidious and effective. Enjoy the camaraderie, it is becoming increasingly rare in far too many places.

Next it will be more rifles, pistols, smooth bores etc. Oh and don't forget all the 18th century mountain man clothing. Yes, it is too late. You are hooked! You're going to have a good time.

Keep a note pad and adding machine, tell us one year from now where you are at with your new hobby!!!! Don't forget to tell us how much fun and saticfaction you are getting.

How much is a great day at a range or gathering worth?
I look back at the many days of laughter, good friends, old and new that I gathered through the years, and I can't put a dollar sign on them.
I wish you all well on this journey, it has been a great one for me.

I meant to show up, stay 30 minutes just watching, then quietly leave. I was there for four and a half hours, and it was hard to leave...

Arkansas folks is friendly folks. I know most of those guys and know what you experienced. Maybe see you at Berryville in the spring.
Now, check out the Early Arkansas Reenactors Association a/k/a EARA, more really great people. Contact me if you cannot find their link.

I'm glad you had a good experience. I've always found that BP shooters are good people. Our monthly shoots here are always fun.

there seems to come a point when you need to see anouther shooting to get that high
It isn't enough that you have a smoke pole and shoot it, you have to get someone else hooked to get that fix.

Forget "The Exorcist", my friend. Satan leads you to destruction with sweets and candy canes, not venom. His contagious smile and the cute wisp of black powder smoke rising from his head like a halo will take you straight to addiction, damnation and acquisition madness. These people may act friendly but their sole purpose is to take your soul. Ah, ha, ha, ha.....

I second the thoughts here today. This post caught my eye because I just left their shoot. All said is true. I am from Minnesota and getting away from the snow and cold. What a warm welcome we received today. Shot in the rain under a roof. The best way to spend a rain filled Sunday. If any one from this club reads this again I thank all members who made it a great day for us.

welcome to the club! as said these things are worse then crack. the smoke, the fire, the noise, and the friends are all apart of the experiance.

They're good people, indeed. I am looking forward to spending many more days up there, until they tell me to stay away!

I bought a Pedersoli Frontier in .50. May go insane while waiting for delivery...
