Unique piece of Sugar Maple

Any idea what you’d call the figure in this sugar maple? It’s just wide enough to squeeze a gun stock out of and I think this would really make a one of a kind stock.

Perhaps quilted. With a bit of birdseye. It looks like it's doing a lot of different things. Very interesting.

It's usually called quilted maple. I made a stock out of some quilted Big Leaf Maple in Oregon that looked nice. It's a softer wood than the Sugar Maple. You might have trouble with any decorative carving!

I got the stock off a fella that had had the piece of wood in his rafters for about 30
Years I just planed it down last night and was amazed once I seen how unique it was
