A lot of insults flying around in this thread. Folks need to try being more polite. This is our community for sharing not attacking.
But, but, there is so much dogmatic virtue that must be shared, and, and, some how, enforced!!!!!

My grand children understand gun safety.
Merry Christmas and God bless.

My 6X6X6 ft. blind is heated by a NuWay LP stove, widely used by Michigan Ice Fishermen and Deer Hunters. I've gone into my blind in the morning at 20F and hunted all day at 50-55F all day comfortably with that heater, with the windows open!

I totally agree but it is now becoming quite popular in most of the forums.

How I keep my firearms in my home is based on my own opinion. Pathfinder is correct. Attacks and insults are unnecessary when comparing/sharing opinions.

A firearm is as dangerous as the shooter is cautious. The wise shooter leaves a marker such as a quill or toothpick or pipe cleaner in the flash hole, and or covers the frizzen. Some visual indicator of a loaded weapon. The dummy simply puts the gun away then forgets. Its as simple as that.

Once loaded my gun never comes back into the house. I leave it cased in our unheated garage on a table. This way no condensation forms from temperarure changes. Plus the fact that the gun is out there is an indicator in itself of a loaded firearm.
When I leave one loaded at the end of a days (unsuccessful) hunt, I stick an orange earplug in the barrel. Even if I get excited and forget to remove it, it will cause no issue when the shot is taken. ( I tried that just to find out. POA = POI. And the bright color is a definite flag that won't just fall out.

Everything is unloaded except for the 1911 by my bed and the bb gun we use to discourage squirrels at the bird feeders.
When the grandkids come the 1911 goes in a safe and they get lessons with the bb gun.
Pretty much the same here. The need to keep your home defence from small ones hands is not optional.
The bedroom piece is in a fingerprint pop open box and the kitchen gun is high a shelf in a cabinet - if you aren't over 6' tall with long arms - you can't reach it. The shorty shotgun bullpup (holds 23 SD mini shells- 12ga) is in my cave grab by the door - the cave has a YI electronic combo lock on it, the combo known only by me and my adult son. Be safe - but be prepared - and PRACTICE both handling and marksmanship skills or you will not be ready if the need ever arises.
The "need" if it ever occurs, will take you by surprise. It took me by surprise in '72. I still have nightmares sometimes. Shooting someone will haunt you even if you are justified. Be mentally prepared as well as physically prepared. Both are required.

If you keep your guns loaded during the winter for hunting? Should I bring into a heated house or keep in a locked shed? Or does it matter?

Loaded guns lying around tend to go BOOM with young folks or "adults" unfamiliar with firearms.

Some decades ago the only brand of USA made powder had been known to corrode a hole right thru the breech of a rifle stored loaded. Yeah, no one here ever heard of this. See old Mad Monk posts.

Study what the NRA says about keeping loaded rifles about.

Do look at what the NRA, specifically the NRA, says about loaded guns.

Leave it in the shed or wherever the temperature is the same or nearly the same as outside. The locked shed isca good place. Mine is sitting in my garage on a folding table. Its just me and the Mrs, so Im not concerned about the wrong person getting to it.

Those of us who keep a loaded gun at home (well 99.9% of us) do so responsibly.
For those who keep all guns unloaded and locked up, sorry for your loss. (or future loss)
Because a forced home invasion or a break in during your sleep when you have no protection at hand will get you robbed, *****, injured or killed.

Only a fool leaves a loaded gun "lying around" as you worded it. That's exceptionally naive.
Any visitor to a responsible gun owners house that keeps a loaded weapon handy will never know it's there. They are not just "laying around"
Read the section in the NRA magazine that showcases the self defence stories where gun owners defended their homes and family.
That should open your eyes on whether or not NRA members keep their guns unloaded or not.
