Unmentionable powder measure

I was looking for a 50 grain fixed powder measure. I took a .308 case and sawed off the bottom. Stuck the neck into a round ball and pounded it in. Holds 50 grains for my Kibler .45 SMR. Just something to try.

They make a nice starter/rod end end too.
Cut off the shoulder, turn down a 3/8 dowel just a bit to fit inside, and countersink the primer hole.

.410 cases as well plus they're easier to trim to length.

How could it be unmentionable? You're using a round ball. But it appears you may have forgotten to patch it.

Been using those closed-end hollow brass thingies as powder measures for years! Just saw off the length needed for any particular load.
You see, we are doing our sport a favor - if we keep using those things for anything other than their original purpose, pretty soon there will be no more of them, and the original users will have to resort to good, honest muzzle stuffers.

45-70 case holds 75gr 3Fg

And a 30-378 weatherby holds 1.75oz of #5 lead shot

Way cool! The Dixie catalog has a chart showing the charge weights contained in modern U-M shell casings. The M1 Carbine case is 30 gr., e.g.
