I retired the second BEF after todays 50 shot session...I used two 3/4" BEF's to shoot three different 50 shot range sessions.

85 shots on the first flint, 65 shots on the second one...probably had another 10-15 shots left on the used flint today, but as I stripped/cleaned the rifle I tossed it, and installed a fresh clean flint for the next range trip.

I use BEF. I ususally get 175+ shots out of them, I dress and reknap them and when they get shorter, I put another leather around it to move it forward. This is the first year I didn't get to my sportsmans club range tbe saturday befor Christmas. That's the unofficial pre flintlock ML season here in PA. The first day is the day after Christmas. I usually get to pick up a dozen or more flints that guys pitch because they weren't sparking after 15 to 20 shots. It's been more than six years since I had to purchased one from a vendor, trader or other supplier.

Wow, that's incredible...what size flints?

That's a lot of shooting. What brand of lock do you have? I can oly get 40-50 shots out of a flint, at best, from the L&R.

Have you done any special tuning to your lock?
Thanks,
J.D.

Member Superflint used the black English flints too, he gor 254 shots from one flint, remember that?
