Friend and I were shooting a .50 Kentucky and wonderd how a load of shot would do. Thinking something like 70 grs of ffg followed by a felt wad, no. 9 shot of the same volume as the powder and topped off with another felt wad. Besides jamming up the grooves with lead fowling, what would happen?
Has anyone experimented with something like this?

Shot is effective in a rifle only at very short distances such as less than 15 yards. The rifling causes the shot column to spiral out into the notorious donut pattern with the huge hole in the middle. And of course, there is the issue of the lead getting jammed into the grooves. @deerstalkert is quite correct. Using shot in a rifled bore has been discussed many times. The overwhelming recommendation is to not use shot in a rifled bore.

I've never tried shot in a rifle. However I think it's worthwhile to try wrapping the shot in a thin newspaper tube.
