I'll be teaching a one-day seminar on colonial Pennsylvania firearms next spring in our local elementary schools. I'd like to get a 1766 French ("Charleville") musket to represent what continental troops carried. I already have a 80s era Pedersoli Bess and a Traditions PA rifle in flint.

Since the kids handle them, I don't need a shiny custom gun. A used musket would probably work best. I don't intend to sound cheap, but I must pay all aquisition costs out of pocket. I do this as a service, and so school kids get a positive exposure to guns, and hopefully assure another generation of shooters to replace us.

Is there a place to look for used muskets? I've scoured Gun Broker, Guns America, et al and all I've found are originals, Pedersoli & indian imports that are close to the price of a new gun.

Are there any other options before looking toward a new musket?

Am I overlooking something?

Thanks for everyone's input.

Hey there

I would say talk to Loyalist arms, Middlesex Village trading company and Military Heritage, tell them who you are and what you want.....it could be they have a return or something kicking around the shop that needs some work done to it.
It could be one of them has a discount for teachers and living history demonstrators
Ya never know unless you ask.

I'm almost certain that all 3 of them have French Muskets in one form or another.

There's a web site called the "virtual round robin" at a re-enactor's site, I dont know the exact address, others here may chime in--I know they have a listing of things that people want to sell, including period replica firearms, good luck, ron in FL

After all the fuss about bringing the classified ads back, has anyone concidered using them, instead of sending people to other sites?
