I've got one here.....someplace...was always gonna try to make a knife sheath out of it. Guess I'll have to try to find it now that you have reminded me.
I have seen tail used as inlay in the flap of a rifle pouch, and also as the wrap for a self-bow handle. Interesting material, hard-won if you trapped it yourself.
When I took my trapper ed course one of the instructors made a knife sheath out of a beaver tail. It was really slick looking. A very simple affair of a tanned beaver tail slipped over and glued on the original sheath.
As soon as mine arrives I plan on using one as part of a pouch flap I'm working on. The top half of the flap will be from a small piece of beaver pelt that I already have. It should look a mite different from others.

If it stops raining, I'll take some pics of Miss Tudys handiwork. She's made a couple of items- a possible bag with a bevertail inlay, and a knife sheath. They turned out quite well, but she says it's a booger to work with...Bud
top sheath goes with a Nessmuk style hunter that we still have.
Next 2 photos are of a Plains Dag that was commissioned by a professor in Oregon. The sheath has bone beads and real human hair scalplocks (no human was injured in the making of it).
And lastly, is the pic of the dbl. pouch bag she made. Hopefully these will give you some ideas...
