Last weekend I took two days of hearth cooking at Conner Prairie. The class preceded John Schipper's engraving class that was part of the Arms Making Workshop. Anyway, our instructor, Gretchen, who is an interpreter at the Village, also told us a useful purpose for earwax - Chapped lips.

She told us it was in the The American Frugal Housewife by Mrs. Child. Sure enough, it's there on page 116. It reads, "Nothing is better than ear-wax to prevent the painful effects resulting from a wound by a nail, skewer, &c. It should be put on as soon as possible. Those who are troubled with cracked lips have found this remedy successful when others have failed. It is one of those sorts of cures, which are very likely to be laughed at; but I know of it having produced very beneficial results."

I used up all my ear wax polishing the stock on my gun...had to use Ol' Blues for for my lips....dang dog didn't much care for the Qtip though! :what:

OHHH, you don't want to mention using anything for a patch lube around here that isn't S-M (Sumtacks-Maxiball)correct. They just don't believe anything can be used other than there own special concoctions.

That's interesting, but how is it as a patch lube????? :haha:

And to think that some people get grossed out when they see spit lube being used...

It would have to be mixed with bees wax, earwax is too sticky, and you would probably get strange looks from the neighbors as you single file the local kids while you had a box of Q-tips and a Mason jar...

Maybe so MM but I think I'm on to something big. In recognition of your contribution I'm gonna call it "Musketman's Ear Butter". Watch for it in all the finest muzzleloading shops across this fair land.

I read an article on a professional fly tier who swore by using the grease from the side of his nose to slightly waterproof flies so they would float a little higher in the water and make the trout bite better. Maybe it was cheese flavored... :shocking:

This sounds along the lines of an old joke I heard about.

Some old prospector in the Mojave was learning the ropes to a greenhorn. The greenhorn has badly chapped lips and keeps licking them which only makes it worse. He finally asks the old prospector what to do. The old guy says, "Well, ya go over ta yer burro, lift his tail, run your finger real well over his bunghole and wipe that on your lips." The kid says, "What?!? You've got to be kiddin'!! How will that help my chapped lips?!" The old man replies, "Well, it won't do nuthin' a-tall for your chapped lips. But it will keep ya from lickin' 'em and makin' it worse."

I'm suprised some beg Eastern company has't made a product out of ear wax for chapped lips and made a fortune!
I understand you can find all the wax you want in the Erie Canal.

Actually spray olive oil works quite well as a ptach lube.
And, Reb ol' boy that WAS a personal snipe at me.
Maybe you should re-read my post to your question where I made a funny remark but preceeded the remarks with NO OFFENSE .
Then a couple posts later you SAY you took NO OFFENSE.
Then oddly you go out of your way to offend me????? on a different thread.
Wassup with that?

Maxi, no offence was taken and no more offence was meant by me than by what was posted about me. I am not upset with anyone, and don't want anyone upset with me. It was all in jest. Lets all try and take it that way. No Foul No Harm, ok?

Maxi, and the above post was only in return for the comments made to my question about the Pam. I know you said NO OFFENCE. but i was always told you can say pretty much anything to anyone as long as you do it with a smile on your face. But like i said above, there are no hard feelings on my part. Sorry if i OFFENDED you.

Yeh, that's fine with me, but I sure don't appreciate being publically threatened to get banned from the forum.
Now that we are on the same page and we both understand that no one is offened and we are big boys just having fun, perhaps Cluade would offer an apology for threatening to give me the "big toss" over absolutely nothing???????

Well, i don't see that there is anything bad enough to get anyone booted. This is a really good Forum. Most all the people here get along fine. A little jab now and then isn't going to do any harm to anyone as long as it doesn't get out of hand. As for me, i don't think anyone should be booted because of this. I am ok with the outcome. Hope everyone else is. Take care.

Just a little hint to everyone.
I know it's hard to believe, but I have jokingly written things in the past and had people take my words seriously.
After reading their comments (via PMs) when I re-read what I wrote, I can see where they are coming from and will edit the comment to rewrite it so the offense is removed.

I have found that the use of the grinning face :: is useful to let people know I'm kidding.

May I suggest that the members use these little faces to help convey the intent that's behind the written words? :) :)

Zonie :blah: If your reply is actually to me :peace: then i think we already have everything :imo: straightened out. :m2c: So lets all just relax :results: and get on with the fun :bull: that takes place here :RO:

No Rebel, no Maxie, it wasn't TO either of you, and it wasn't ABOUT either of you.
I'm glad both of you are happy people.
It was intended to pass along some of the tools of etiquette I have learned during the past year or so.

The reason I posted it is because IMO, when we are posting on the forum, we tend to forget we are isolated from each other.

When folks are sitting together, they can see the facial expressions and maybe even the hand gestures of the person talking.
When reading words on a screen, the reader has to go by the words, just as they are written.

For example, I could be sitting here with my friends, talking about anyone and say "Now there is someone who really has his head up his....".

If I had a big grin on my face, everyone present would know I was just kidding about everything I said and was just making a joke.
If I had a scowl or a very intent and serious look, they would know I meant every word of it, just as I said it.

The little icons help to let the readers know if what is written is really serious or just a joke.

Keep on posting! :)

Ok, well, then how about an earwax and Pam patch lube? (As Raven flies off for cover, heehee....) :D

Cute one Raven :: I guess ya can't be all bad, ya do live in Az. after all. But then again, all that heat may have done some permanent damage to the grey matter upstairs. :peace: Take care. Hey, maybe some prickly pear butter added to the mix might help too, what ya think? :redthumb:

I have seen on other forums where misunderstanding get going occassionally. But, if they aren't doing a lot of #$)%*@#, and calling someones momma bad things, no big deal. Most everyone here appears to be adults.
If you want to get into mis-understandings, I'm in the Plains Indian Seminar group, that includes a lot of Europeans. There were near blow ups at times, until we started to realize that things are stated differently in different parts of the world, and even here in the states, depending on how you were taught a language.

As for earwax, it is a handy substance to use on a spindle end when building fire with a bow drill. Not good for waxing floors, however. You can't get very much done in a day. Don't know how it will be to dance on, as I have only got about two square inches covered in my testing so far. I do not believe it will commercially viable.
