I am a big fan of LMF Permalyn Sealer to seal maple stocks before I apply my oil-based finish (the thin Sealer product, NOT the thicker Finish). I let the Permalyn Sealer soak into the wood, then sand it off the surface, then apply my finish, basically following LMF's directions. I am considering to use the LMF Sealer as a grain filler for a walnut stock by sanding as I apply the Sealer. Once dry, I would sand off any surface slurry then apply my finish as per usual. Before I give this a go, thought I'd see if anyone else out there has done this and had good results.

I hope you have an adequate supply of LMF products, cause it is unobtainium everywhere, you cant even get ahold of the company.
Seems like they had some kind of disaster, and just shut down last year.

I haven't tried to buy any recently. I have one can that I bought a couple of years ago that is enough for my current build.
