OK, some [strike]DIPSTICK[/strike] I mean I misplaced my vent liner for my Pedersoli Blue Ridge flintlock yesterday and now REALLY need one so I can hunt what is left of the muzzleloader season.

Can anyone help?

Who sells these things and what kind is a good one to get?

Thanks

Blackfoot

if you need it NOW,you can get a straight grain dowel rod at a hardware store,,,

you could use it to load your rifle,if you have a cleaning rod you could use it for cleaning after fireing,i have already in an emergency, pin a 357 brass onto wooden rod and the rim on the case held the patch, like a cleaning jag, or cut a long hole abt a half inch long & half inch from end of rod to push the patch through, like on a shotgun cleaning jag,,its tricky but it can work,,

Just how would that work?

I believe he thought you meant ramrod.

If you can get the thread count you could make one by getting the proper screw, cutting it to length, cutting a screwdriver slot in it, and drilling through it for the vent.

Otherwise you'll have to order one. TOTW probably has what you need.

No worries, BUT I could see a vision in my head of a wood rod twisted into the vent liner hole and drill a hole and fire............In a pinch.

OK maybe not

------YEAH-----that wooden plug would probably leave the barrel quicker than the ball-----yes try the screw idea for your vent, seen it on other guns,,,

A metric or SAE allen setscrew with a hole drilled through it will work, GM barrels seem to come that way in their IBS kits.

I don't know what the dia/pitch of the Pedersoli vent liner is but get a "socket head set screw of that size and drill through it 5/64 (0.078" or smaller) to make the vent. The socket head makes a nice outside cone, trim the total length so it doesn't intrude into the breech and cone the inside. don' forget to acquire an allen wrench of the appropriate size to insert/remove it or any screw of the right size will make a vent-liner by definition (just harder to drill a hole through. When the experts check in, listen to them. One of the real experts will likely be on soon (not sure who is "On-Call" for emergencies this weekend). In the meantime get one ordered from Track of the Wolf etc.

Should be able to find that. Usually the hardware store specialty trays have 0.7, 0.8, 1.0 and 1.25 metric pitch screws.

Just bought a Pedersoli Penn rifle, the DGW catalog has a 5/16x20 for the vent. It is also listed on several other Pedersoli rifles. This is not a size normally found in the hardware store. Most 5/16 bolts are either 18 or 24 tread count. Don't know how metric converts, not sure it does on that one. Dixie does carry them.

Although this link deals with creating a vent liner for a Queen Anne pistol, it has some tidbits of advice about making your own vent liner.

Given a choice, if you can find the metric threaded bolt that fits your barrels vent hole and you have the choice of stainless or regular steel choose the stainless bolt.
